“BACK AT YA DICKHEAD”

Lily can’t stop screaming at her new neighbors. Two STUPID boys who blast rock music at ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT. now it isn’t even good music mind you, it’s the kind that people listen to so they can say “I liked rock before you knew how to walk”. Really it just makes any sane person want to invent a time machine and murder the man who created rock music because it led to this exact moment.

She’s armed with a broom and is banging on her ceiling.

When her neighbors first moved in, she was excited. Most of the people in the complex either have kids or have grandkids and it has been difficult to make friends around. However, once she met them, everything changed.

First she tried to tell them, politely, that she works. All the time. When she isn’t working she’s at medical school, and she also happens to be a crazy light sleeper. Maybe she was more lonely before they moved in, but at least she was well-rested. 

Sirius. If only he lived up to his name. and his roommate James Potter. Little did she know they would be the bane of her existence.

So after a long night of studying at the library, she was a little bitter. First off, she started her day getting yelled at by her boss because her crummy coworker Peter took her shift, then bailed. However, she was running a study group and couldn’t get away, especially since she had technically worked way overtime this week. Then, the library was packed full of students and no one in the group was prepared for the discussion. It was exhausting and frustrating and when she walked up the 4 flights of stairs (the elevator was broken) to get to her door, the last thing she wanted to hear was Sirius Black screaming incoherent words to music with a cringe-worthy beat. 

Banging on the ceiling only seemed to aggravate him, because even though it seemed an impossible feat, the music only got louder. 

“fuck it” she muttered

she stormed up the stairs (quietly fuming because she was not going to disturb the other neighbors,) and didn’t even notice she was behind a messy haired boy.

“SOrry! sorry, bollocks! I didn’t see you there” James sputtered as she ran into him.

Lily probably should have said something but in all of her anger she was not expecting an apology, especially one from an awkward, nervous boy who was shoving his glasses up his nose. 

“Hey, I know we haven’t formally met, do you live here too?” he asked while leaning up against the hallway. 

“Yes, I’m Lily, also known as the girl with the broom who can’t stand your music” she said pointedly. Overall yes she should have been nicer, but it was a bad day. 

“Ha. Yeah I’ve been meaning to come down and apologize, I’ve told him to stop but Sirius has some anger issues, some pride issues, and overall just some issues. I promise we’ll try to keep it down.”

“oh. well. okay I guess. just you better keep it down.” She said and turned around in a bit of a daze. He walked into the room and yelled some profanity, and miraculously, the music went down. 

maybe this wasn’t so bad. one stupid boy with one, cute, messy haired boy? maybe she can handle this after all.

Remember that it's absolutely ok to feel sad, so embrace that, just take care of yourself - take a hot bath/shower, read a favorite book, watch a movie, eat some comfort food, drink some tea. But Sirius & Remus & Peter with Harry :(((

think about like all the things they would’ve done with this small child

Like Sirius got this child a broom but picture him and Remus chasing little baby Harry around the yard and Sirius following him around on his motorcycle, and Remus holding his arms out making sure that Harry won’t fall off his broom while Sirius challenges the child who can barely talk to races

Peter trying to teach Harry to play cards except Harry doesn’t understand and keeps throwing the cards at Peter’s game and calling it “Pok-ah” because thats what Pete keeps saying and for the first 5 years of Harry’s life he believes that card games are based on throwing them, gaining points eventually on distance and where he hits, and Peter just doesn’t have the heart to properly explain the game 

EsPECIALLY since it annoys the crap out of James who can’t walk into the room without being bombarded with cards and Harry’s got quite the technique

and Lilys taken to casting shield charms whenever she walks into the living room “bloody hell Pete, not again” but she laughs because Harry alway smiles when the deck of cards comes out

Remus making fun of the other 3 marauders who non-stop try to get Harry to pronounce their nickname first 

but then when he’s alone and whispers Moony to Harry while tucking him in, because oh c’mon, its the easiest name and the look on Sirius’s face would be priceless 

and when Remus is feeding Harry his breakfast Harry’s face lights up as he shouts “Moo-ey” and everyones face is completely shocked 

Remus just smirks 

Even though Lily once heard him cooing to Harry, she lets him have his moment because Remus’s smirk had been missing, lost since the hogwarts days

Peter making the silliest faces and always being able to make Harry laugh

Sirius getting jealous and even asking Pete of his ways bc 

“UGH for Merlin’s SAKE I’m his Godfather and I’ll be damned if I can’t make him laugh, just help me, please Pete!”

Harry turning 3 and having an animal themed birthday party, with a weird amount of deer, rats, wolves, and dogs.

Sirius actually turns into a dog at this party and Harry running his chubby fingers across the dogs’s head wanting Sirius to do it again and again and again!!!! 

James convincing Harry that deer are the best animals in the world

James and Lily sending their patronus’s galloping across the room for entertainment and Harry keeps clapping any giggling

whenever Harry cries Sirius consults the book for how to handle it

Remus scoffing whenever he see’s the book

“what Remus I’VE NEVER BEEN IN CHARGE OF A HUMAN LIFE BEFORE SO SUE ME”

Remus teaching Harry practical jokes (the muggle ones at first) and Lily walking around the house and going to the Order meeting with a pencil line down her face from a quarter

Harry’s first bit of magic is making the lilies dance in the garden (they have so many because every spring people insist on sending them, especially Slughorn) 

All of them are there and Lily starts crying and James is filming it and Peter and Sirius are dancing next to the garden while Remus is showing Harry how to flick his hands for different moves

Au where Lily was sorted into Hufflepuff so she has that always kind stigma around her until James sees her punch someone for the first time.

I really liked this prompt, so stay tuned because I will probably write a short on this too! 

Lily is rather quiet, does her work, and is only really noticed by James as “Snivellus’s friend” 

but if you ask James about Lily, he might vaguely remember seeing her with Mary and Marlene, two gryffindor girls, and he’s alright friends with them

“she’s top of the class” Remus would say, because one time he really struggled with charms, and Flitwick had her help him

“oh yeah, she’s in hufflepuff right? She’s friends with Selia, speaking of, have you seen Selia?” Peter would probably say distractedly, trying to find his girlfriend

“redhead hufflepuff? nah, I know a redheaded ravenclaw though, feisty one she is” Sirius would smirk

and thats how it was for a while

except one day, Sirius grows bored and Snape and this hufflepuff are walking by and suddenly Snape is dangling in the air and some students have started to laugh and crowd and James has his wand in the air

“Let him down” she screams and stares directly at the offending pair

“oh look, your girlfriends come to your aid” Sirius sneered, and spared her only a quick glance, as he was too focused on Severus. 

no one really saw it coming or anything so it was a shock when a crack was heard

all James saw was a flash of red

and suddenly Sirius was on the ground, clutching his face

and Lily’s knuckles were red and her hand was shaking but the look on her face was deadly 

Snape was dropped, as James was in pure shock

Lily turned towards him, her green eyes flashing and he backed up a step “easy there Red”

and apparently that was the wrong thing to say too

“red? RED? I’ve been in your classes for years, HELL you’ve been partnered with me and you can’t remember my blOODY NAME? WHAT THE HELL IS IT WITH YOU PEOPLE? CURSING FIRST YEARS IN THE HALLWAY JUST BECAUSE THEY GET IN YOUR WAY? MESSING UP YOUR HAIR BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU LOOK COOL? YOU MAKE ME SICK! I’M SURPRISED YOUR BROOMSTICK CAN GET OFF THE GROUND WITH YOUR BIG, FAT HEAD!” she screamed as she pulled her wand out

She’s walking away now, pulling Snape with her an  her wand is still out as though she was daring anyone to come at her

no one was laughing anymore

and then Sirius is up, and his teeth are bloody and he’s staring directly at Snape’s back “you’re just lucky she was here to protect you” 

but that was too much and Snape whirled around, wrenching his hand from hers “I don’t need help from filthy mudbloods like her!” 

and Lily turns around too

her wand still out, and for a second James locks eyes with her and he watches the hurt flit across her face. but only for a second before her eyes go cold and he witnesses right there, the string between them breaking, the famous hufflepuff loyalty meeting it’s match

“fine, I’d wash your pants if I were you, Snivellus” and she’s gone again.

Sirius’s stares up and his look is what James is thinking bloody hell.

“hell of a punch” Sirius says but its garbled and he’s in pain, but he has to admit he’s impressed.

“I think I’m in love” James mumbles as he shakes himself out of the daze. 

“Right then, who wants to watch me take off Snivellus’s pants?”

CHRISTMAS MARAUDERS

ugh Christmas is magic and they are magic so get ready folks

Lily Evans loves Christmas because her dad always told her she was a walking embodiment of Christmas: she was kind and happy and red and green

uniforms be damned, she wore ugly Christmas sweaters over her white blouse, the kinds with 3-D decorations on christmas trees and she charmed reindeers to run across them and they were absurd colors with ridiculous prints but without fail, every December she broke out the bottomless purse in which she pulled out her sweaters and a tree

she put a small tree in her dorm room and every year, Marlene, Mary, Dorcas, Alice, and her would decorate it and enchant christmas lights and make the ceiling and walls look as though snow is falling 

basically Lily Evans was the epitome of CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

She would decorate the Gryffindor common room and there would be lights everywhere and stockings for everyone staying at Hogwarts and Christmas music playing through her radio

James Potter had always liked Christmas, but it never seemed to be that big of a deal, it was like every other holiday

but Lily Evans changed that

7th year she knocked on the heads dorms and had a twinkling sweater that was the color of her eyes, with a giant reindeer (she insisted it was a stag) on it, that shook it’s head every once in a while, and her grin could've replaced the sun. 

Christmas easily became his favorite time of the year

She would get drunk on firewhiskey and serenade Remus screaming about sleigh rides, and Rudolph could make her cry if it was late enough

Lily and Marley would dress up in santa costumes and sneak presents into all their friends rooms for the twelve days of Christmas

Somehow Alice always got the best gifts for people. hands down. They would be about running jokes from first year, somehow funny and thoughtful and it really frustrated Frank because his gifts always felt small compared to hers

but she loved him and it didn't matter

Marlene dragged everyone outside when it first snowed because “guys the first snow is magical, you can't deny it” and everyone grumbled but it was beautiful and that moment lasted exactly 30 seconds before Remus squashed a snowball into Lily’s face

it was WAR and Sirius tackled Remus while Marlene pummeled him with snow, Peter and James teamed up to take on Frank and Alice and they were pretty evenly matched until Alice charmed the falling snow to become falling snowballs that were somehow all attracted to James and Pete hm wonder how that happened???? Lily made a snow angel until Dorcas caught her attention, and they both surprise attacked Sirius and Marley screaming war cries and Remus was able to get up and he charmed all his snowballs blue so everyone knew when he had won

eventually they were all shivering and no one could tell if they were blue from Remus or the cold so they ran to the kitchens where they got hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows and cinnamon rolls

Remus and Lily had a thing where they both wore Christmas sweaters and he appreciated someone else appreciating them as much as he did

Sometimes they even swapped sweaters just to switch it up

Dorcas and Edgar Bones were always mixing drinks at parties, but during Christmas everything seemed to taste vaguely or peppermint, chocolate, or cinnamon

Sirius and Lily first became friends fourth year because they both stayed for Winter break

Her and Petunia had a bad fight and she was scared to go home, Sirius stayed every year

It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship when her Christmas spirit was infectious to even the sullen rebellious teenage boys

Fourth year was about the time she decided she could knit, and she knitted him a green, red, and black beanie, she called it “edgy” because of the black. He wore it all through December, and every year to follow. 

they decided to sled down to herbology once it started snowing because it was much more fun and WORMY YOU WON’T WIN THIS TIME

Peter always beat everyone else down the hill and it made Sirius really angry 

Lily made him an award, transfigured from a rock into a trophy where she carved Peter’s name 

seventh year Mary decided a holiday ball was in order to boost spirits, and quickly got McGonagall on her side given her natural inclination towards transfiguration and sarcasm. 

At first it was going to be 4th years and up, but she decided every age was more in the spirit of Christmas

She spent weeks planning and booking The Wicked Sisters and enchanting complex decorations and the ball was like a dream come true, filled with food and great music and for one night every Hogwarts student seemed to forget about the impending war

Every house was dancing and cheering and laughing and for once everyone was merry

Davey Gudgeon shyly asked her for a dance and between her pale complexion and bright red cheeks, she almost matched the candy canes she transfigured

Sirius amazed all of hogwarts with his electric slide and didn't stop even when the slow songs came on

Eventually they all formed a circle and clapped and Frank Longbottom stood on his head and got down like nobody’s business

Dorcas shocked them all with a intense ballet mixed with contemporary that left everybody speechless

and we ALL know James pulled Lily in and they messily spun around and she dipped him and he spun her out and kissed her nose when his arms wrapped around her

hogwarts felt like the family that it should be

Jily at Thanksgiving !!!!!!!

-“Ok lily, I have been studying muggles and I CANNOT believe you have never told me about thanksgiving.”

-“what about thanksgiving …???”

-“I READ IN THE BOOK THAT IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT HOLIDAY AND YOU CELEBRATE WITH LOTS OF FOOD AND BEING HAPPY FOR THINGS”

-“James .. that’s not a brit-”

-“HONESTLY LILS IM DISAPPOINTED IN YOU. FOOD. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY YEARS POOR PETE HAS BEEN DEPRIVED OF THIS MARVELOUS HOLIDAY. OF COURSE I HAVE ALREADY TALKED TO THE HOUSE ELVES, THEY ARE HAPPY TO TRY OUT THE NEW RECIPES!!! ISN’T THIS GREAT? MUGGLES WILL FEEL SO AT HOME!”

-“but James-”

-“honestly I’m really shocked we don’t get a break. I mean come on, just because wizards don’t celebrate the holiday doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get it off. It’s bloody unfair. Maybe I should talk to Dumbledore about it…”

-“POTTER”

-“Lily I thought we talked about this. You were the one that said first names when we are serious and this is SERIOUS business oh merlin what have I done”

-“neither of you are Sirius. Also, I don’t believe this involves me so it is also not Sirius business, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t speak so carelessly.”

-“Besides, thanksgiving seems like a great way to bring people together and to look on the bright side. Seriously Evans, you’re slacking on the muggle pride here.”

-“You know what … you’re right. I don’t know how or why I never thought about that, given I’ve spent my WHOLE life undoubtedly celebrating this holiday. Good one Potter.”

-“why do I get the feeling you’re being sarcastic?”

-Thanksgiving actually becomes a really big holiday, even though most people don’t know what it was for

-it becomes a big help because they all go around stating who they’re thankful for and what they’re thankful for and it makes everyone a little bit brighter

-Remus even charms a sweater to have a turkey on it to get in the spirit

- “OH MY GOD SIRIUS STOP FLINGING STUFFING AT MY SWEATER HE CANT ACTUALLY EAT IT”

-“he looks so hungry. Moony you are killing your sweater, you heaRTLESS WENCH”

-“Wench …????

-they all pop thanksgiving crackers too and hey this is kinda fun

-all of hogwarts is decorated with colorful leaves and it looks like a fall wonderland and it’s amazing and beautiful

-Dumbledore gets SUPER into it and it’s great

General Headcanons

 ugh in honor of October 31st, ;(((

Lily was kinda a messy person

she wasn’t a slob or anything, but she was definitely a bit all over the place

her mind went a million miles a minute which means she talks really really fast

And she switches topics and jumps all over the place and rushes off because we all know she totally started the Potions Club and was involved in Charms club and really was eager to try and learn more about this world that seemingly everyone else had grown up. 

and so sometimes she gets flustered, and may leave things behind, like textbooks and quills and even notes

It’s a real problem, there’s a lily drop off slot in their dorm door if anyone finds her things

but James absolutely adores it

even though he often finds himself contributing to the Lily pile, especially after they start hanging out more

except he is a total neatfreak and begins organizing her things 

and omg THEY TOTALLY BALANCE EACH OTHER OUT PERFECTLY

like how lily gives james new ideas for quidditch ploys because her ramblings about team improvements prove incredibly useful

and how her notes fuel his study guides and his study guides are organized and much easier for the both of them to study

she comes up with crazy plans for their pranks and he comes up with the logical ways to execute the plan

It’s crazy because in the marauders he totally comes up with the crazy plans, but he likes being the logical one,

they both go back and forth being the logical one and the dreamer and it’s a beautiful cycle 

Once they start dating they are practically unstoppable

their powers combined, literally the best team

especially in the order, at first Moody was worried about putting them on the same team, but soon he saw it was the best option

They looked out for each other, filled in each other’s gaps and weaknesses 

they balanced each other out, her potions and his transfiguration, her charms and his defense, 

and she loved to wake harry up in the morning, cooing until the green eyes blinked up at her, and bouncing him until he is awake and excited for breakfast

and he loved putting him to bed, and telling him stories of the greatest pranks from Hogwarts and his best times with Lily (many of these stories fit both categories)

and their fights were often evenly matched, her wit against his charm

Her Smile

    When people asked, what was the first thing you noticed about her? He wouldn't even have to think.

 It went way back to first year, before anyone had even boarded the train yet. Euphemia Potter was known for her punctuality, meaning that the three of them were an hour early.

"Look Mont, it's much better we are early than late! We just missed floo traffic, that's all. Besides, now James gets to pick his compartment, . . when the train gets here."

James rolled his eyes and stopped listening to his parents little squabble. The train platform was very, very, empty. There was a janitor, lazily directing brooms across the floor and vanishing the trash from trash cans. A couple owls were perched on the overhead beams. It was boring.

Very slowly, a couple other early birds began to make their way to the platform, and about 15 minutes later the train rumbled it's way into the station. The platform was still relatively empty and families were quietly whispering things like "listen to your professors" and "Don't forget to owl us, once a week y'hear?".

So when a certain young witch arrived through the wall, her amazement echoed throughout the platform.

"NO WAY! THIS IS UNREAL!" she squealed as she panned around the station, staring at the wall she had just passed through. She seemed to notice she was loud, as she flushed but she couldn't help herself from giggling a bit, amazed at her portal to the new world. She slowly spun in a circle, staring at the enchanted ceiling and when she faced him, he knew that was the prettiest thing he had ever seen.

It was amazing, her smile practically lit up the whole platform. It was wide and slightly crooked and her eyes were bright and crinkled and she looked like a complete dork but it was beautiful.

 It was that damn smile, the smile that eventually would make his heart stutter a bit, the same smile that would make him want to actually study in the library with her, and the smile he desperately wanted to see which made him pull all kinds of ridiculous things in class, just to see her lips quirk up and her teeth shine through.

It was the very first thing he noticed about her it was the very first thing he fell in love with.

Jily lives AU

okay so maybe James is downstairs because he is hungry

and he hears footsteps on the walkway

the walkway no one should be able to see

something is wrong

he sneaks up the stairs, and grabs his wand and Lily and they grab Harry and run

apparating out to the nearest safehouse

James has silent tears running down his face as it finally sinks in that Peter small Peter Pettigrew., his best friend, his brother, sent him and his family to his death.

Lily sends a patronus to Remus, and James uses the mirror and it only takes a second for Sirius to realize what happened

and suddenly he’s cursing himself and yelling and crying red hot angry tears and he’s making threats that only a Black could make

Part of it comes from the guilt in believing Remus was the traitor

the four of them come together and make an unbreakable vow to protect each other. Always.

It takes a lot of time to get over Peter.

Lily can’t stop thinking of their tutoring sessions in the library, the quiet boy who was brilliant in charms and always knew how to make her smile

James can’t stop thinking about how supportive Peter was of his crush on Lily

Sirius got annoyed and Remus would stop paying attention, but Peter? Peter would always listen to his problems and offer advice. He gave the best and worst advice.

Remus can’t stop thinking about how Peter would always sneak down to Hogsmeade with him whenever he was craving chocolate, always willing to help him to the hospital wing after a rough transformation, always willing to help him catch up in classes.

and Sirius. Sirius is livid. The betrayal of his trust comes at a high price. Sirius can’t stop reliving the days back after the Snape incident, when even James was mad at him. When he lost the will to eat, and spent all his time in the room of requirement, but Peter was there. He would bring him his meals, his classwork, a silent but comforting presence.

they put themselves back together, together.

Sirius and Remus stay with them so much, they basically have their own rooms there

    and Harry is confused as to why they keep changing locations but his parents always make it seem like home

every once in a while, Harry will catch a few tears leaking out of his fathers eyes

or his mom will just stare at the door, as though she’s expecting someone else to join them

no one else ever does

Uncle Pads and Moony are plenty though

they always spin him around and help him pull funny pranks on his parents

and they help him reach the cookie jar

Harry is happy, they’re all happy, and somehow everything is fine

Jily Headcanons

-ok so first off, some really really really bad jokes about James Fleamont Potter -FLEAMONT -CAN ANYONE ELSE JUST HEAR THE JOKES -"hey James can I borrow your grey sweater? "STOP!!!!! PETER YOU'LL GET FLEAS" "oh shut it padfo-" "ITS IN HIS NAME FOR PETES SAKE" *sirius laughing BC double the pun" -oh so many bad jokes -especially after he transforms into an animal I mean for Christ sake James you really set yourself up for that one -Lily finding out his middle name is Fleamont and she gets them both detention in McGonagalls -that was the first time James Potter dared to hex Lily Evans (The first time he could manage to hex her tbh her laughing left her defenseless) -also Lily Evans has a loud laugh that some people may find annoying but James finds incredibly dorky and endearing -James won't stop stealing Remus's books to impress Lily -(Lily totally knows what's happening BC she sees her notes in the books he already lent her but she lets it go because James trying to describe the books after reading summaries and the last page is hilarious) "I mean who knew, right? You can totally kill a mockingbird, you just gotta hunt down this boo radley guy" -Remus eventually gets frustrated when his books aren't in order so he takes revenge -of course Remus is friends with most of the portraits so he convinces them all to yell Fleamont at James whenever he walks by in exchange for the latest gryffindor gossip -James can't figure it out and he starts carrying around a bottle of hair product to fling at any portrait who dares speak the name -when he first tells lily that she thinks he means Voldemort and is a little confused -until they go do head duties and they start shouting "SIR!!!!
