Cinematic Parallels
I mean if you think about it, the parallels make sense.
Cuz you got 2 Labour PMs (Harold Wilson/Tony Blair) who were fairly popular , charismatic and likeable to the public at the time, but who took too damn long to resign as PM due to various reasons (although in Harold Wilson’s case it’s more understandable cuz he had dementia, meanwhile Tony Blair’s case is not cuz, well, he’s a war criminal and a twat).
Once they *did* finally resigned, they left their best mates, both of whom were also Chancellor of the Exchequers (James Callaghan/Gordon Brown), to become PM, only to have their best mates have to endure their 3-year run as PM mostly dealing with chaos & shit in Britain during those 3 years (James Callaghan dealing with the Winter of Discontent in 1978-79; Gordon Brown dealing with the 2008 Financial Crisis), all of which was due to external factors and was beyond their control, and tbhf they both did their absolute best with dealing the situation.
Unfortunately, everyone kinda blamed them (JC/GB) for this mess, leading to the Tories to win in the next General Election of that year (Margaret Thatcher in 1979/David Cameron in 2010), leading to a long extended period of Tory Rule in Britain in which the mess that was there in the first place was just made even more damn worse by the Tories.
However, even though both JC & GB were kinda hated at the time, in later years both have been viewed fairly positively in retrospect, which has gotta be smth at least.
(oh and also, both Harold Wilson & James Callaghan’s relationship and Tony Blair & Gordon Brown’s relationship kinda had gay energy going on, soooo……yeah :)) )
Anyway, any thoughts on this guys? Do let me know in the tags/comments/reblogs people!!
