I’ve just seen on X that Gillian Anderson appears in the Epstein files attending dinners of his in 2017. Do you think we as the X Files fandom should be concerned? there are quite a few famous people at these dinners who were also not otherwise further implicated in the files, but the idea that she was a guest of his gives me the creeps a little ngl.

First: Both emails were not about Epstein's own parties-- they were invites to third-party events (the BAFTAs and an Elton John AIDS charity dinner, respectively.) Importantly, Gillian Anderson and Peter Morgan were already listed as guests BEFORE Jeffrey Epstein was issued an invitation. To claim they were possibly guilty because they attended the same festivities would be on par with blaming every actor across the board for attending a Hollywood afterparty where Weinstein was present.
Second: You have to remember: the Epstein files are a conglomeration of EVERYONE that had ANY contact with Epstein at practically any point, as well as unsubstantiated or debunked rumors, tips, and claims. For example: there's been (rightful) criticism about the administration blanking out children who were sitting or standing next to adults that turned out to be their parents, which caused unnecessary implications all around. (As a relevant aside, I've even seen claims recirculated on Twitter that were already discussed, investigated, and debunked years ago.) The release of the files has NOT been clean or well-organized.
Third: Proximity does not equal guilt. I'll repeat: proximity does not equal guilt. If that were the case, then Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughters are also tainted because they were taken to Epstein parties as young as sixteen. Yet it wasn't them who had a close and personal relationship with Epstein: Andrew and Sarah had multiple email exchanges praising Ep, not their daughters. Epstein hobnobbed everywhere, with everyone-- that doesn't mean those people were close friends or even "in" on what he, Ghislaine, and others were doing. Trips to the island or dear, close friendships are the best indicator.
Fourth: Here's what you have to pay attention to: who does Epstein correspond with regularly? Who routinely contacts him? What do he and these people say about other people or get-togethers mentioned?
Last but not least: Again, proximity does not equal guilt; and this gun is far from smoking.
I understand the confusion and questions, anon-- I have them about a lot of people right now. But let us proceed forward with caution.
