My grandmother was biracial. Her father was white, her mother was black. She was born, raised and died in a tiny town in Louisiana, during the era of Jim Crowe. She once told me the only reason she was initially interested in my grandfather was because he had the most dark skin in town. She got so much abuse growing up (from both the black and white kids) being noticeably mixed that she made it a priority that the father of her children would have darker skin than her. Isn't that fucked up? I don't even have a refined conclusion for this post other than the fact that it's messed up.
