Jimi Agbaje denies dumping PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the 2019 elections in Lagos, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has denied reports that his principal had dumped the opposition party. The media aide to Agbaje, Felix Oboagwina made this known on Wednesday in Lagos that social media posts that Agbaje had left the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) were untrue. The posts that Agbaje had joined APC have featured prominently on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook in the past few days. One of the posts sighted both on WhatsApp and Facebook on Wednesday read “Lagos PDP finally emptied as Jimi Agbaje defects to APC”. Reacting, Oboagwina described the reports as fake news, saying they were figments of the imaginations of the authors. He said that Agbaje was still very much in PDP and that there was no way he could have joined APC on social media. “There is nothing like that, nothing like that at all. He is still in PDP; he has not defected. “How can people say he has defected on social media? He is too big for that; he is in PDP,” Oboagwina said. When asked if there were plans by his principal to dump the PDP for APC, he answered in the negative. This is not the first time Agbaje is debunking reports that he had dumped the PDP for APC. Shortly after the governorship election in March, which he lost to Babajide Sanwo-Olu of APC, reports went viral that Agbaje had dumped the PDP for APC over differences with party elders. However, the PDP candidate swiftly through a press statement issued by Oboagwina, who was Director of Media of his campaign organisation, denied the reports. The PDP governorship candidate said the “rumour” was the handiwork of people he called mischief makers and vowed not to leave the party. “I will remain in PDP despite the campaign of calumny being waged against me in the media by a few elders. “For a party that has twice accorded me the honour of running on its platform, it should be regarded as uncharitable to say I am abandoning the party,” he had said. Agbaje also dismissed the allegation of mismanagement of campaign funds by some party elders, saying he spent the money according to directives from the national secretariat. Lagos 2019: Sanwo-Olu, Agbaje clash over ‘stooge’ remark

As the Governorship campaign heats up in Lagos for the 2019 election, the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Jimi Agbaje respectively have engaged in social media confrontation. Agbaje had taken a swipe at Sanwo-Olu for allegedly being a stooge of the ruling oligarchy in Lagos in apparent reference to the National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Agbaje took micro-blogging platform, Twitter, by storm yesterday when he tweeted that Sanwo-Olu would only serve his leader and not the people of Lagos if elected as Governor. Agbaje said, “In all of your public statements in recent times, you have paid homage and obeisance not to Lagosians but to whom you refer to as National Leader for the opportunity to be a candidate. In effect you couldn’t have dared to run if you were not handpicked to be endorsed. “For A Greater Lagos, Choose Freedom. Choose Democracy. Choose Lagos.” Agbaje’s comment on his verified Twitter account @jimiagbaje was in response to the TVC interview granted by Sanwo-Olu on Monday. But Sanwo-Olu irked by his opponent’s comments also took to Twitter using his account @jidesanwoolu said the comments by Agbaje whom he referred to as his elder brother is unbecoming of an elderly man. He said, “My initial reaction was to ignore him (Agbaje). In this campaign season,it behoves on anyone seeking to be governor of Lagos to have an elevated mind. As leaders,we should place a high premium on civility and imbibe a high level of decorum in a period like this as example to our followers. “Our campaign should be about important issues that affect the lives of our people; what we are bringing to the table to make life more meaningful to Lagosians. “This election will be about who has the best credentials to lead Lagos at this time of our development. It won’t be about who can dish out the most insults or tell the most lies. It will also not be about who can instigate ethnic tensions between the Yorubas and the Igbos. “The election will be about who has the best plan to continue with the progressive and developmental agenda of Lagos that started since 1999. Bode George is very shocked by Otedola's endorsement of Sanwo-Olu

Former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Bode George, has described the endorsement of Babajide Sanwo-Olu by billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, as shocking. Sanwo-Olu is the Lagos governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria's governing party. In September, journalist Dele Momodu announced to the world that Otedola was going to run for the office of Governor of Lagos on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Otedola neither confirmed nor denied Momodu’s disclosure. "Wonders will never cease" On Saturday, November 17, 2018, Otedola shared a picture on his Instagram where he was seen posing with Sanwo-Olu—a frontline governorship candidate ahead of the 2019 elections. “Dinner at my residence yesterday evening with my childhood friend, APC governorship candidate, Jide Sanwo-Olu; the governor in waiting,” Otedola wrote. That ringing endorsement of an opposition figure by a member of his party has understandably left George dazed and flummoxed. “That is news to me. That is very interesting. Wonders will never cease. It is very shocking”, George who is a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), told Punch newspapers. Quizzed on what has become of Otedola’s rumoured governorship ambition, George stated, “He has always been with us (PDP). I will call him. I will find out that ‘Ki lo ri? Ki lo se? (What did you see? What did you do?)’ That is strange.” George however said Otedola’s apparent volte face won’t affect the electoral dynamics of the PDP in Lagos. “No, it doesn’t affect our strategies towards 2019 because he is not in our camp. But it is shocking. He is my aburo (junior) and I am going to find out from him what made him (endorse Sanwo-Olu). “But he is a thoroughbred Lagosian and the people Bola (Tinubu) is handpicking are all from Ogun State. Is that what he wants for his state? I will ask him,”George was quoted as saying by Punch.
