The Byrd - Goin’ Back(1967)
Album Number One Hundred Seventy Seven. “Fifth Dimension” is the third album by the Byrds and was released in July 1966 on #columbiarecords . Most of the album was recorded following the February 1966 departure of the band's principal songwriter #geneclark . In an attempt to compensate for Clark's absence, guitarists #jimmcguinn and #davidcrosby stepped into the breach and increased their songwriting output. In spite of this, the loss of Clark resulted in an album with a total of four cover versions and an instrumental, which critics have described as "wildly uneven" and "awkward and scattered". However, the album is notable for being the first by #thebyrds not to include any songs written by #bobdylan , whose material had previously been a mainstay of the band's repertoire. My copy is on Columbia Records - CS 9349 #rockandroll #folkrock #sixtiesmusic #thesixties #rogermcguinn #chrishillman #michaelclarke https://www.instagram.com/p/CVpkQiWriL9/?utm_medium=tumblr
Album Number One Hundred Seventy Six. “Turn! Turn! Turn!” is the second studio album by the Byrds, released on December 6, 1965 by #columbiarecords Like its predecessor, #mrtambourineman , the album epitomized the folk rock genre and continued the band's successful mix of vocal harmony and jangly twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar. The album's lead single and title track, "Turn! Turn! Turn!", is a #peteseeger adaptation of text from the Book of Ecclesiastes that had previously been arranged in a chamber-folk style by the band's lead guitarist #jimmcguinn while working with folk singer #judycollins . The arrangement that #rogermcguinn used for #thebyrds ‘ version utilizes the same folk rock style as the band's previous hit singles. My copy is on Columbia Records - PC 9254, a later reissue. The album marked an increase in McGuinn's songwriting output and rhythm guitarist #davidcrosby received his first writing credit on a Byrds' album. However, the band's prolific songwriter #geneclark still contributed most of the original material. #rockandroll #folkrock #thesixties #sixtiesmusic https://www.instagram.com/p/CVk6KVvLehN/?utm_medium=tumblr
Album Number One Hundred Seventy Five “Mr. Tambourine Man” is the debut studio album by the Byrds and was released on June 21, 1965 by #columbiarecords (Starting out my string of 12 Byrds albums) The album is characterized by #thebyrds signature sound of #jimmcguinn ‘s 12-string Rickenbacker guitar and the band's complex harmony singing. The material on the album mostly consists of cover versions of folk songs, primarily composed by #bobdylan , and originals written or co-written by singer #geneclark Along with the Dylan-penned single of the same name, #mrtambourineman established the band as an internationally successful act and is widely regarded by critics as representing the first effective American challenge to the chart dominance of the Beatles and other British Invasion bands during the mid-1960s. My copy is on Columbia Records - CS 9172, although the original labeling still has CL 2372 on the album jacket. Can’t say the reissue year. (They’re still using “Jim” McGuinn on the album back cover). #rockandroll #folkrock #thesixties #sixtiesmusic #mikeclark #davidcrosby #chrishillman https://www.instagram.com/p/CVfsCJPhQ_C/?utm_medium=tumblr
