jinna the hedge-witch: it seems that in your past life you had a love which ended abruptly. your true soulmate’s path will intertwine with your own on many occasions, despite long periods of separation
the fool, out of nowhere, after more than a decade apart: haiiii fitz long time no see <|:^)
fitz: hmmmm i wonder if she’s talking about molly
guardian angel
Jinna commenting "So that is what it is like for a she-wolf", and "I've never been with a Witted one, before this" just gives me the ick. Especially when she proceeds to tell Fitz he's taking insults "where a compliment is intended" after he is rightfully incensed that she implies he's more animal in bed than man. Even if she chooses the words "untamed" and "more natural". I cannot fault Fitz for wondering what he is to her: "a novelty? A forbidden indulgence with something not quite fully human?"
Furthermore, this reframes their entire encounter for me. From the get go, Fitz is unsure whether he actually wants to sleep with Jinna. He is aware that their connection might lead there, and councils himself to caution even as he indulges in her company in a platonic manner, also expressing that he craves exactly that comfortable, non-sexual company. Already, Jinna's prior kisses seemed like a thing Fitz needed to contend with, not just in order to attain platonic comfort, but retain a roof over Hap's head. Of course, Fitz is a grown man, a veteran, Witted and Skilled. He could have pushed Jinna aside, or told her no. And yet. I cannot shake the feeling that from the moment Jinna learned of Fitz's Wit, she wanted to sleep with him. So, presented with the opportunity and a man who seems hesitant but pliant enough if pushed, why not push? Every time it seems as if Fitz would protest, she distracts him, through touch or kiss. Fitz even says "I knew a moment of sanity when I could have stopped what was happening. But she gave me no chance to surrender to my common sense, for her hands were at my belt". Had Fitz had a moment longer of sanity, as he puts it, and crucially, had he been asked for consent, I somehow doubt he would have consented. This seems further confirmed by how he laments their coupling afterwards, describing how unsatisfied he feels because he craves to be loved, and not just sleep with somebody. Jinna attempts justifying this feeling with her charm against pregnancy ill-affecting Fitz, but all else considered the explanation strikes me as insufficient.
So, while I would hesitate in calling Jinna and Fitz's affair non-consensual in the sense of assault or rape, it seems as if Jinna had a clear motive in her befriending of Fitz (namely, sleeping with a Witted man) and did not scruple in using Fitz's vulnerability (craving comfort and love) for this purpose. Fitz cannot find comfort in her home and company if he does not also kiss her and have sex with her. As such, I don't think their sexual encounter is entirely consensual, either, because Fitz is not in a position in which he could easily deny Jinna.
choose a fitzchivalry farseer fail moment (no f&tf spoilers)
when he was drunk in the gardens the first time he met Patience
when he got elfbarked by Peottre and talked all night about how he wanted to die
when he had sex with Jinna and came in like 30 seconds
when he got memory stone'd at the inn and fell out the window
when he went to Molly and Burrich's house, spied on them, and then left
when he tried to convince Laurel that Nighteyes was a dog
when he didn't realize Kettle was a coterie member for like an entire book
when the Fool was with Laurel and he was jealous bc he thought they were fucking
when his only friend for 15 years is STARLING (SO fail)

Books: The Farseer Trilogy, The Tawny Man Trilogy
Rating: Mature
Characters: Starling Birdsong, Jofron, Kettricken, Jinna
Summary: 3 times Starling got gifts from women she slept with.
Excerpt:
“Starling gave her a wide, impish smile. “Perhaps you would do well do give us Buck minstrels more credit.”
Kettle had proved a most reticent travel companion, but Starling was nothing if not skilled at getting information through simple conversation and piecing together the rest herself. So it wasn’t just that old woman who thought such a strange, ill-mannered man could tell the future! Starling was not convinced, but she was intrigued. After all, there had to be a reason why someone like this ended up with the favor of a queen and the trust of a heroic bastard prince. Starling might not like him, but she could appreciate the value of a good story.
Jofron seemed impressed enough, if her expression was anything to go by. “I apologize if I made assumptions. Perhaps this is a good chance to get to know one another.”
Jinna the hedge-witch
(Yeah yeah I took some time to recover from Liveship Traders but I am back and damn had I forgotten how completely insane Fool’s Errand is from the start)
Well that’s the end of Jinna. I can’t say I’ll miss her.
