Jiri Kalfar Spring 2021: A collection that reflexes a new start and continues to stand by the philosophy of ethical and sustainable fashion.
Former ballet dancer Jiri Kalfar introduced his first women collection in 2012. Kalfar is a ground-breaking Czech designer who combines high fashion with a passion for environmental awareness and sustainability.
Jiri Kalfar unveiled his Spring 2021 collection in Prague, his hometown, through a digital catwalk presentation during Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Week.
It is the first time, since 2016, that the designer shows his collection in Prague. In previous seasons he exhibited in London Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. However, the world pandemic asked for changes.
Kalfar changed the location and presented for the first time delivering a live show in virtual reality. He provided the audience with VR glasses, which allowed them to experience the show in complete safety.
Fluidity, lots of transparency and laces, gave the collection an air of sensuality.
Spring 2021 was predominantly white, which signifies a clean slate and espousing the significance of lineage. The materials were fully organic and cruelty-free such as Buddhist ahimsa silk, vegan leather, pineapple and mushroom leather, vintage lace, and banana thread.
"The world has changed in a matter of months, and it is necessary now more than ever to take responsibility and make a positive change - Jiri continues to stand by the philosophy of ethical and sustainable fashion,'' explains the designer to Celesta Ballabani, on September 18, 2020, for Rough magazine.
