what is your character afraid of?
crucial muse development questions.
Alright, a list of things Braig’s afraid of. I’m going to list all of them, in no particular order, and what age range he tends to be afraid of those things.
Yoda, ages <1-1.5-ish.
Braig had been very sheltered in the few months leading up to his joining the Order. He hadn’t even seen a droid before. Combine that with how strong Yoda’s Force presence is, and this little guy was thoroughly rattled.
His biological parents coming to find him, ages 5-8/9.
This goes hand-in-hand with the one I’m putting next, so I’m going to write them one shared blurb below.
Being sent away from the Order, ages 11-13.
So, here’s the thing about these two: They stem from the same root cause. He’s terrified of being taken away from the Temple, because it’s the only home he’s ever known. He was afraid of losing it all, and being dragged to somewhere he didn’t remember with people he didn’t know. He was also afraid that this one would be the biggest show of ‘you’re not wanted here’ he could think of. Going back to his parents would’ve just sent him into a massive spiral. Downwards, maybe, but definitely disorienting. Just let him stay with the Jedi - it’s what’s best for him.
Worms, bugs, and snakes, if they happen to be small and green, ages 13/14+.
So, this is from a really old and yet really (and awfully) self-indulgent thread I did with Rodi, way back. We wanted to see what would happen if Obi’s padason got mind-wormed, how that would effect each of them, how it would change things, etc. So, we went into the Geonosian arc and let Braig get thrown into the hive mind briefly. Of course, it was only temporary, and Ahsoka saved the day, but this poor kid never really got over it. Squirmy little green creepy-crawlies still freak him out.
Underground, closed-in spaces, ages 13/14+.
Nothing good ever comes from being in these. Incidents such as the Geonosian debacle and the Grau Tessk adventure only confirm this.
Being powerless, inadequate, or otherwise not being able to complete his duties, ages 11+.
This starts due to his feeling inadequate as an initiate, and as though he would never get selected as a padawan. When the war started, he was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to succeed there. The thing about that is, if he doesn’t do well as a padawan, people could die. Either himself, his men, his master, or the people they’re protecting. So it becomes pretty substantial for him.
The sound of marching feet, ages 17/18+.
This is the product of Order 66. It reminds him of the approaching armies.
While not fears, per se, O66 also made him uncomfortable with crowds, meeting strangers, being touched, and using his real name. Good luck getting him to openly discuss the Jedi, or use the Force and/or his sabers, too.
