This was the biggest one line piece I've ever drawn. It took a total of five and a half hours of solid drawing and 4 x @poscauk pens. I really wasn't sure I'd get it finished in time but by 2.30am it was complete. Thanks to @hello.subversive for having @adop_t and me come and draw / map for Tribal, it was awesome. Next stop... @number90bar October 1st for Jive Talk. Be there to see the art unfold! | Love From LidlBillionaire | #jivetalk #madmapper #liveart #oneline #armache #blackandwhite #posca #poscauk #mapping #bar90 #hackney #hackneywick #eastlondon
The fifth studio full length album from The Saddest Landscape, "Darkness Forgives" — available everywhere October 23, 2015 from Topshelf Records. Purchase on CD, vinyl or digitally: http://smarturl.i
The Saddest Landscape are set to release a new record, and in typical fashion I’m in disbelief at how they manage to keep getting it right time after time. The first 15 seconds of this song make me feel like I’m the window seat in a plane crash. With every passing lyric, this song becomes more desperate, the space to struggle for air closes, the light escapes completely. Although I am willing to admit there is still a glimmer of hope here and there, it makes me feel like clawing at the ground until my fingers are numb. I’m all for bands making something different from where they were a couple years ago. In Souls Worth Saving, the smile completely faded and the amps got pushed past 11. In writing this, I’ve listened to this song 3 times and every time my ears perk up at different moments. That can only be a good thing. This band have been around long enough that they could make a record so lukewarm and the purists would still love it; I’m just forever thankful that it seems like that will never happen here.
I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve delved into the 80′s. Well that’s not quite accurate, but I tend to keep this aspect of my tastes away from Jivetalk. From the early days of this blog, I was enlisted to cover the more abrasive end of things. Although nobody told me to find a niche and stick to it; everyone was doing a cool job in their respective corners and I stuck to mine. However, I’m breaking routine a little and after listening to ‘Tin Drum’ a few times this week I thought I’d reminisce a little about Visions Of China by Japan.
For the early 80′s there are a few quirks in this song, most notably the massive Eastern influence coupled with a lack of guitar for the most part. The electronic element had been coming through on previous work, but this was almost a case of running out of options and running the only path you could. Although there is a definite 80′s feel, there’s a really accomplished sound that sets Japan away from everything that was happening at the time. Boundary pushing without really overthinking it. In ways it reminds me of New Order’s Movement in a way. Stripping away a vital element of your past and emerging with something a little out of the blue but definitely standing proud on it’s own two feet. Visions Of China was my first taste of Japan, and from the first notes of that hypnotic fretless bass I was hooked. If Live Albums are your thing, check out the version of this song from ‘Oil On Canvas’, it’s pretty special.
Jivetalk Presents: Bedbound By Summer // The Sunnyside Farm Sessions
Continuing our Sunnyside Farm Sessions of live performance videos, we got together in a freezing cold glasshouse on New Year's Eve and recorded a couple of songs with Bedbound By Summer, before heading to bed early for the new year.
Bedbound By Summer hail from Boston, England. A small town with small horizons, set in the picturesque Lincolnshire fens. They've put out a self-recorded 4 track acoustic album and are on the verge of releasing an electric EP and sophomore album.
