Rojas says he was stunned when a motorcycle approached him and told him his tour was over:- "I could not believe it, so I ignored him and kept going. I was in a super comfortable situation, because for the last forty or so kilometres, had done nothing to justify my dismissal and so I decided to finish up the climb and complete the stage." In his nine seasons as a professional rider from Murcia, this is the first time he has been kicked out of a race. "It hurts, because I've always had a sporting and professional behaviour. Because this season I had to come back from two crashes and recovering took a lot more effort to get ready for tour conditions. Being expelled three days before the end for 'the benefit of slipstreaming cars going downhill', I honestly think it's an injustice.

Knowing that they accused him of drafting the cars going downhill, it's sounding a bit more ridiculous. He's a very capable descender and even the average rider would reach speeds whereby they are able to keep up with a car on the way down, if not the car getting in the way. The cars are just there and don't really have anywhere to go, not to mention he was no longer at the front trying to work for AV, nor was he trying to get back there. So you wonder why they really felt this way.
I do love the image of a race official telling him and asking him to stop and him just riding off and finishing the stage. So sorry it ended this way for him.
A tough couple of days for AV but it's not over yet. He's down to fourth on GC but I'm crossing all fingers for the time-trail on Saturday. He's not Spanish TT champion for no reason, so it will be interesting to see what he can.

Bit gutted about JJ Rojas having to be withdrawn (read as forced out) after "sheltering too long" behind a vehicle/holding onto one allegedly, interested to know what happened there since no cameras appeared to get it. I was looking forward to all 9 finishing Le Tour. Seems particularly harsh when I spotted Voeckler getting more than a little assistance. Pft.
Storm's just getting started outside and on the Tour! Cmooooon Movistar! (Plus JJ is still with the big climbers and he's a sprinter, why does he not get more credit?!)
Chapeau Tony Gallopin! Clever move! Still a bit sad because it looked like Rojas actually had some support for a change but I'll take sixth and none of them injured.
Talansky rode like a hero though, I'm pleased he didn't quit but I hope he's ok.
So proud of Movistar today! Definitely not an easy day and they protected Valverde amazingly! JJ giving him his bike is a sweet touch. Glad to see most of the injuries are superficial and nothing worse.
10th on GC now, c'mon!!
