He was startled by the short melody, swiping dust off of his eyelids when Cheolyong was resting on the couch after a long day of work. He was close to fall asleep on the armrest when a face appeared on the door lock system screen in his living room. His sight adjusted, but memories almost mistaken the guest as someone else he used to close to. He was taken aback, but had no reason to not open the door that midnight. “Wait a second,” Cheolyong pressed on the speaker button to give the man a warning, moved on to the unlock one and dragged himself to the front door. Senseless and in drowsy state, he pulled on the handle and greeted the guest. The face had become clearer and brought roomy feeling into his tighten guts a moment ago. “Oh, it’s you,” he spoke, droopy eyes fluttered and forced to open. “I thought you’re someone else…wait, but what are you doing at my door? At this hour?”
Jinyoung hesitated a lot when he set his foot to walk towards Cheolyong’s apartment, wondering if it is okay for him to ask for help at this hour when his car got stuck just around the latter’s neighborhood--when, in fact, he’s not that close with Cheolyong to begin with. He tried contacting his manager, bandmates, and even his closest friend--but none of them are answering his call. He was going to wait for the other’s to respond back, but then his battery died and there’s no hope left for the idol, especially since fixing a car was never his forte. With much hesitation, he ring the bell to what he known as MBLAQ’s dorm (he’s not quite sure how he know about it, perhaps from one of his colleagues--he don’t remember it any other way), waiting patiently in front of the door with his snapback and mask, back pressed onto the cold wall with his arms crossed then. It was until he heard the door creaking that he almost jumped, his own expression was just as surprised when he was greeted with Cheolyong’s voice though a relieved feeling surges. “Thank goodness that you’re still awake--” was a reflect that came out of his lip, his hand holding onto his chest. “--I mean, I know it’s weird... like, you see, short story short, my car got stuck and my phone battery died... then I remember that you said you live around here--was it you?--anyway, I’m sorry for bothering you, but... can I sleep at your place for tonight? I was trying to contact my bandmates and managers but none of them are answering my calls.”
Ooooh you're making a comeback?! I didn't recognize you in those pictures, haha! Good luck with the promotion and don't hurt yourself!
The MV dropped yesterday! And I’m just going to take that as a compliment, honestly…but thank you! I’ll hand you a signed album soon – if you don’t end up getting my photocard, it’s a sign for you to buy even more of it until you manage to find one! Heh.

One For The Girls: Questions For Female Idols
12. “Female idols exist not for their musical talents but to sell a fantasy.” Talk about how that statement affects you/what it makes you think.
That makes me feel infuriated more than anything. It’s not only our male counterparts that have the talents – we’re fully capable of being as equally gifted with both singing, dancing, acting, hosting, among everything else. Yes, we may be more prone to being dressed in scandalous clothing, but aren’t the dance moves all of the same effect? It’s not just the girls who do moves that are quite provocative. We are idols – some of us artists, even. Most, if not all, female idols get into the industry to do what we love which is singing and dancing; we aren’t selling some “fantasy”.
19. Do you believe women should embrace playing up their sexuality or do you believe they should remain more conservative?
I believe that every woman should do what they’re comfortable doing. It is a bit different in the K-pop industry, though. Some of us don’t enjoy the fact of being sexy in front of a crowd or anyone for that matter, but since it’s for our job and fans, we always have to end up doing so. As for myself, I’m comfortable with the idea of being “sexy” – on stage, that is. I grew up rather…shy and timid – I was always shy in front of the camera during my trainee days but dancing really helped with opening up and being a lot more sociable. I don’t have much of a deep meaning as to why I’m all for being open about one’s confidence and charms, but I definitely do embrace it. Hyosung-sunbaenim and Lee Hyori-sunbaenim are my role models in that sense – they always give it their all no matter what. The reactions the crowd gives is what motivates and empowers them, and I’d like to experience just that too! It’s a hard feat, though, since our Korean culture’s very much deadset on being innocent, old-fashioned, and conservative as possible…but a new age is here for both the entertainment industry and the country!

7. Successful females are often a huge source of inspiration for other females. Are there any women you look up to?
When it comes to performing, I definitely received a lot of inspiration from Lee Hyori unnie. I actually got the privilege of working with her on my last album, and it was honestly one of the most amazing things that have happened in my nine years of being in the industry. I also look up to my three unnies for reasons that a lot of people overlook. Miryo unnie and JeA unnie have the most copy written songs of any female idol. They also are successful vocal coaches. Miryo unnie is the one who taught Yubin-ah how to rap and look at how wonderful she’s become. JeA unnie was the one who strengthened my voice. Narsha unnie is a successful comedian, director, actress, and a once in a lifetime performer. I don’t have composing talents and my voice isn’t like JeA unnie’s or Narsha unnie’s, so they really pushed me to be the best performer I could possibly be to make sure I didn’t feel as if I was lacking. I definitely owe these four unnies it all. There would be no Son Gain without Lee Hyori or the Brown Eyed Girls unnie line!
12.“Female idols exist not for their musical talents but to sell a fantasy.” Talk about how that statement affects you/what it makes you think.
“They’re making up a fantasy so that they can control you and me.” That’s a line from my title track “Paradise Lost” off of my latest album. I think a lot of people paint this image of what women are supposed to be and attempt to stuff them all in a single box as if we’re all supposed to be the same. A lot of talent (of female idols) is overlooked because of concepts they might have, me being one of the victims of that. Instead of focusing on my vocal talent or the lyrics in my songs, a lot of people boil me down to what I decide to wear on stage and it’s not fair. A lot of people (particularly women) have it in their minds’ that I’m just some sleazy woman with who lacks morals and is out to steal and seduce everyone’s man so that they can feel better about themselves in some way. Or, we have other people (particular men) that think I’m some easy woman with no standards, and I’ll lay down and do whatever they want me to. Neither are true, but in order to fulfill a person’s own specific wants and needs, they try to boil me down to either this and that. It happens to all people in the industry, but mainly women. We no longer become real people with real emotions, but silent props for perverted men and target practice for women uncomfortable with themselves. I completely exist because of my musical talents, that’s why I’m in the music industry. I’ve been here for nine years, and still people don’t talk about my vocal talent, only what I decide to perform in and that’s terrible. It seems like it’s worst than ever though, I’m just hoping all the new girls in the industry have tough enough skin for everything that’s going to be thrown their way.

6. Do you ever feel as if your male counterparts (either labelmates or other artists in general) have ever gotten preferential treatment because of their sex? If so, how did it make you feel?
Ah, this is a bit tricky to answer.. I don’t think they’ve gotten any preferential treatment from the directors or the company itself, but of course there are some things that cannot be controlled by them. It is still business, of course, so it all comes down on who has the bigger fanbase. Or who is demanded more by the public. But personally, no, I haven’t felt that way. I hope I never get to, because that would really be disheartening for me.
17. Have you ever felt as if your looks have defined you?
At some point, yes. Don’t we all reach that stage though? But I got past it eventually, and now I kind of just.. go with the flow. Also because I’m already past puberty and I think I’ve grown up to be pretty good-looking. I’m kidding, heh.
