Where is the most romantic place on earth?“There’s no such thing, in my opinion. Its the person you’re with that makes a place romantic, not the place itself. So for me, it was San Francisco, where I met my late wife.”

Looks or personality?“Personality. Looks are great for attracting you to a person, but its their personality that makes them someone worth sticking around for. You can lust after a person based upon appearance alone, but it isn’t until you get to know their personality that you can say you’re in love.”

White, dark, or milk chocolate?“Dark chocolate, hands down. Not only does it taste delicious, but its good for your heart and its an aphrodisiac. I’m not a big fan of American-style milk chocolate (I prefer the dairy milk I grew up with in New Zealand) and, as someone who has spent way too much time in a restaurant, I can assure you that white chocolate isn’t actually chocolate at all.”

What is your ideal first date?“I like doing adventurous things for a first date. I find it so much more enjoyable than the cliche dinner and a movie. I spend enough time in a restaurant at my job to find such a setting romantic, and what’s the point of going to a movie on a date? You’re just going to spend two hours in the dark not talking. Take me rock-climbing or surfing or to an amusement park.”

17…Which do you agree with? Love should always feel comfortable, or love should always feel new and exciting?

“This is definitely a personal answer, but love should always feel comfortable. I already have chaotic energy surrounding me, always rushing around to do things and have about a million things in my head at any give moment, if love wasn’t comfortable, it’s not for me. Sometimes silence is the most comforting, I don’t want to be doing something constantly to stay in love, that’s too much effort.”

“Both are essential for a good life.”

7…Do you currently love someone?

“Platonically, yeah. I love a lot of people. I have a lot of close friends that are like family to me. Cleo, Lourdes, Cass, Paul, Devon’s parents. There’s more probably,” he signed as he spoke, then his smile softened a bit. “Danielle, of course. I love my Danielle. And Daphne. She’s Danielle’s family, so that makes her my family.” They were figuring things out, and it would be a while before they got there, but he was confident after talking things over with her that they would figure it out. “If you mean romantically, am I in love with someone, I don’t think so. That’s a harder love to define, I think.”

13…How did/would you propose to the person you loved? Alternatively, how were you/would you like to be proposed to?

Charlie’s eyes dropped, lips pressed together thoughtfully. “I’d never considered it, honestly. Um, I guess…I don’t really like the traditional, you know, long emotional speech and then getting down on one knee. It’s very,” he paused, uncertain how to phrase it. “Hearing-centric, I guess. If I were to propose to someone, I’d find a more visual way to do it. A slideshow of photos of us maybe, or edit a video together. Something like that. And if someone were going to propose to me—insane as that person would have to be—I’d hope they’d do something similar to that. Something more visual.”
