Ok, here’s my long and negative post of episode 9. For starters, the episode title sucks.
*i may come off harsh because im tired, being moody, just really missing Danny, and having the fourth Dandy-less episode is messing me up. %)
Just in my opinion...and crappy writing..
I didn’t like ‘JKKIMH’. I find it to be the weakest episode of the season. It just doesn’t tell me where the story is going. It does have funny jokes and heartfelt moments. Leo as the cute nerd and Mindy & Jody realizing what they really want, than something they thought they want. But, I guess I’m so bothered how it was just a random episode. A random episode before Danny comes back. Like if this is the last Danny-less episode, wouldn’t you think there’s some conclusion to this Dandy/Danny-less plot. Like Mindy realizing she can have it all, believe she can do this, and ready for Danny to come back. (and get married?) Maybe next episode will show that while Danny does come back in that episode.
But, ugh. The episode didn’t bring anything to the story. There was no B-plot or like using an another plot to use other characters in ‘JKKIMH’. So, we were focused on Jody and Mindy. I would think an ep with no B-plot or whatever it is, would mean this plot better be really good and entertain me for the whole ep. Sigh, it was too much Jody and Mindy! Why so much Jody and Mindy?! At first it was boring and predictable because it was just setting up the story to have Mindy and Jody to help each other and to do their plans. They did do them and learned something, ...and then I asked for what, in this season/arc? Maybe that is too harsh. Jody did learn that what he really wanted was love and not the idea of the love of Anne-Marie. That kind of explain who Jody is and all that. But, why that without a B-plot. I don’t know why Mindy learning that she just wanted to be good enough to the snobby moms, fits with Danny being gone or being ready when he comes back. If this message of the ep. does mean something later on,can writers make that clearer? Also, they ended the ep with Mindy learning that the school cost a lot money to spend in one year in school. ok...
Another thing that makes ‘JKKIMH’ low in my fave list, is how the writers use Danny’s lines during the Danny-less episodes. I like Morgan, Peter, and sometimes Jody. So, I liked ‘Road Trip’ and ‘Later, Baby’, more than ‘Mindy&Nanny’ and ‘JKKIMH’. Maybe, because I didn’t mind of Peter, Morgan and Jody moments, but also because I can see where the story going with Danny and while Danny being gone. Also, there were moments that touches on Dandy. There were no lame Danny’s lines.
I’m disappointed and annoyed on how they used Danny’s lines or mentioning of him in the Danny-less episodes. I don’t mind of getting Danny-less episodes. I think it’s some cool way of showing character growth on Mindy and Danny. Mindy learning to be a working mother and Danny working on his daddy issues. I noticed in these Danny-less episodes, they were to have a few lines of Danny or mentions of Danny. Some were like jokes or just random lines. Others lines actually lets the audience knows how he’s doing and we, the audience, see that Dandy is still going strong. I guess my point is that I don’t like how they make Danny’s few lines just pointless and doesn’t like move the story or the episode. Maybe, I want the lines to be normal and not to be a joke. Something that goes with why Danny have to be away and something that moves the episode and the plot.
I guess, I like Danny more than some fans do, so I get more bothered when they don’t acknowledge Danny the way I was hoping for. Or, just having Dandy-less moments for 4 episodes straight, is getting to me. It is making me disappointed and frustrated. Like Mindy trying to get Leo into a fancy private school without Danny, seems super sucky in a way of Danny missing out so much. Mindy doing so many things with Leo without Danny. Like it hurts seeing Danny not being there for Leo and Mindy, and then we see Mindy as as a fake wife/girlfriend to Jody. A wife/girlfriend! argh. It’s weird seeing rom-com stuff with Jody and Mindy. Maybe, I would like ‘JKKIMH’ and ‘Mindy&Nanny’ more if Danny wasn’t around for only one episode. But oh well.
I know it’s a comedy show and I do think TMP,is one of the few comedy shows that is a smart, does arcs, and character developments. I think it’s rare for a show that does that and having a fandom being passionate of a comedy show. I know it is about Mindy mainly, but I viewed Danny as a major character too. How the writers wrote Danny-less episode were okay, but I think it should be better. I know the writers can do it better. More heartfelt moments of Danny, writers. Like put a subtle arc of how’s Danny dealing with his dad’s illness, getting closure, and feeling appreciative of that he came to help his dad. Or, they could show like Mindy having a hard time without Danny. (or more of it.) I’m just bummed that the writers just put lame jokes for main character. It’s like they don’t care for the character of Danny or something. (or for 4 episodes.)
I wish those Danny’s one liners and mentions of him, were not for a joke or some random comment. I liked ‘Later, Baby’, because what he said mean something for the show and the episode. He’s helping his dad and also later he listened to Mindy and they made each other feel better.
I just think in ‘JKKIMH’ and ‘Mindy & Nanny,’ his line should mean something if it’s the last Danny-less ep. Like, “Hey, my dad is getting better. See ya soon.” If not the last Danny-less ep or moment, then why not “Hey I trust you, Mindy, for what’s best for Leo’s education.”
So far, the fandom thinks ‘JKKIMH’/ep 9 is last episode of no Danny. Yay! I hope I go back to enjoying it like usual or feeling normal. haha I just miss Mindy and Danny. I hope when Danny returns, there will be some sweet Dandy moments and family moments, and (I think) some kind of conclusion to this arc (to what I think) from ep.4 to ep. 10.
