thank you thank you thank you thank youuuuu 💞🌹🎈🎉 ily all :(
who is your favorite author and your favorite book by them?
so my authors have fluxed a lot over the years first i was a murakami advocate then realised he’s just a japanese john greene with a fetish for ears and now i’m leaning more towards madeline miller and the song of achilles. though i must say, the one book i love so dearly is the picture of dorian gray by my loveliest buttercup oscar wilde. even having to write an essay comparing dorian gray to the great gatsby by f.scott fitzgerald (who, by the way, is an amazing author also and someone whose writing style i admire heavily) i did not get tired of dorian gray. i had read the book two, three times, analysed it deeply and read a lot of literary journals and to this day it is a book i can pick up and read as if i am reading it for the first time.
going a little off-track here but i recently read a book called the white book by han kang; it explores the symbolism of the colour white and meditates on the colour’s significance, multitude connotations and delves into the gravitas of mourning, rebirth and tenacity of the human spirit. kang focuses on fragility and strangeness and beauty all in a sole colour that has multifaceted meanings laced seamlessly.
i also literally just finished a thousand splendid suns by khaled hosseini (for the third time!) and again, a beautiful book discerning the lives of two afghan women and how they both come from two different backgrounds. it is a ‘bildungsroman’ and the journey of a woman and how both different, are joined together by indescribable forces during the revolutions and uprisings in afghanistan. it explores a friendship formed during trials and tribulations, akin to the ties between a mother and a daughter, where they overcome bullets and rockets and their deprived freedom with startling heroism.
