commonplacerfollowshisbrush: I would be all over this as well if I weren't absolutely incapable of playing any character broodier than a kitten.
Tbh I don’t think Call of Cthulhu is a good match for ‘broody’ PCs. The ideal PC in a CoC game is a decent, mentally stable person who (whatever other motivations they might have which propel them to do unreasonably dangerous things) genuinely want to seek the truth, protect the innocent, and preserve a humanistic way of life.
Maybe more to the point, since I’m the DM - I don’t have a huge amount of patience for broody emo edgelord PCs. My favorite characters that the players bring to the table tend to be likeable dipshits who are in over their heads but are trying to get stuff done anyway. Listen, I’ll bring the drama to you. Terrifying and challenging and upsetting things will happen to you in the game. I would much rather see a character I like and enjoy struggling with those events, and ultimately growing because of them, than watch Corvin Ravendark, who just can’t shut up about his dead kids that we never met and don’t care about, lament his cosmically inevitable misfortune for countless hours of my real-ass adult life.
What I’m saying is, if you want a lighthearted game, this one is not right for you, but if you want to play a happy and well-adjusted character (with the understanding that a lot of stuff is gonna go down that will challenge how happy and well-adjusted they remain), that’s great.
jlr7245: :o i’m not anon but i am potentially interested in a cthulhu game depending on when / where it is!
Honestly, I haven’t made up my mind yet 100%, but right now I’m leaning towards 1930s Russia - possibly expatriating to Paris fairly early in the campaign, depending on player choices, and then travelling frequently.
