Stevie was diagnosed with lower hock arthritis today (aka bone spavin) :(

We're going to try conservative management first by getting her on Equioxx, in a grazing muzzle so she loses weight, and incorporating lots of hand walking into our routine, then see how she's feeling.

The vet believes it's the result of a congenital defect given her other wonky conformation - she was likely born prematurely or undercooked. On one hand it's nice to finally identify the issue that's been plaguing us, but on the other hand I hate knowing she's been hurting for likely the majority of her life. Luckily she has a good prognosis and I'm crossing my fingers that changing our habits and adding pain meds will make a world of difference for her

First lesson with a trainer on my own pony next Tuesday. I'm nervous!!

I've been feeling very anxious lately and it's been affecting my riding, so we've been doing lots of hand walking instead. Today I was finally feeling brave enough and I hopped on her bareback outside!! We traveled a total distance of one foot but I'm still counting that as our first trail ride

Does my pony know that she is my sunshine and the only thing holding my mental health together lately. Does she have a single clue. I hope she does

Stevie was acting very odd during our short ride today - rushing, refusing to steer and swinging her head, even popped a tiny rear when I thought I had her calmed down. She was super good before and after on the ground, so I'm hoping it was just an off day between the poor footing and the herd being a bit stiff from our fields being nothing but ice for two weeks :(

I own two pairs of breeches now and even though I haven't ridden in them yet I'm starting to see the appeal... my transformation into a wenglish rider is getting stronger

Signed up for a leather tooling class at Tandy 👀 my end goal is to make beautiful fantasy-styled horse tack so this is something I've wanted to try for a while!
