little au i'm working on! maybe *this* will be the project i turn into an askblog, who knows...
in this universe, Celestia has been killed by a rival army while defending an Equestrian border village. in her desperation to ensure her power went to *somepony*, she transferred her magic to the nearest pony, which happened to be a young recently-orphaned pegasus filly named Sandwich Bread. In this process, Sandwich got turned into an alicorn and as Celestia's dying words, she named Sandwich her heir.
obviously, this caused the entirety of Celestia's court to freak the fuck out.
Twilight was especially effected by this turn of events, as she had been under the impression that should Celestia die, *she* would be Celestia's heir, but the princess never specifically declared that, so she was S.O.L. Twilight subsequently decided to step up and begin teaching Sandwich magic, hoping to be shown favor and ascended by Luna who rose to take Celestia's place. Equestria, however, is not prepared to tackle *two* newly-ascended alicorn princesses during times like these, so Twilight has to wait. Since this AU would take place sometime in season 3, before Twilight became an alicorn, so she still has much to learn about friendship, and this predicament has certainly not been motivating her to continue studying friendship. I don't quite know how the other Mane 6 members fit into this yet.
All of what Ive fleshed out about Luna in this is in her little ref image. I plan on making one of these type of drawings for the rest of the characters too, including Cadence, Shining Armor, Twilight(+the others, if i can be bothered), and Sandwich herself.
