Just one more moan, then I shut the frog up
So, taking a breath yesterday really helped with the heartache. I recommend stepping away from tumblr if you're as sad as I was.
What also helped was fanfic. Oh, bless the Lord for fanfic, and may he bless every fanfic writer!!!
I recomnend reading this brilliant series to cheer you up:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
@quizzicalquinnia Thank you so much for this. It's hilarious!!!
Anyway, I want to say one more thing about all this, just to get it out of my heart so I can move on.
Many of you helped me decipher a possible reasoning for Jaime leaving. That's one of the things I love about tumblr and this ship. You guys are a hopeful, positive bunch and that's awesome!
Still, I want to say this:
The show has totally let me down. The writing, no matter the purpose, has destroyed the most precious thing about this relationship: Trust.
Jaime is a man with many issues, neither is Brienne perfect. But the trust between them has never once wavered. They understand each other as no one else does.
So making Jaime leave her like that, trying to sneak away in the middle of the night, without an explanation, not even a goodbye...
By doing that, he has destroyed this immense trust.
No. Just no. That's not him. He would never, never hurt her like this.
There could have been so many ways to send Jaime off to KL alone, but this was probably the worst to write.
If they give them a happy ending, I'll be just as happy as the rest of you. But it will now always have a bitter aftertaste for me.
They attacked the foundation of their love and that's just horrible.
Yes, it is "realistic" that people are flawed and hurt the ones they love because of their own issues. Yes, that can shake the foundation of a relationship. But there are only two episodes left and many plotlines more "important" than JB have to be wrapped up, so whatever screentime they give them, it won't be enough to fix this. I don't think it will be satisfying.
And this is the one thing the end of a story should be: Satisfying.
This doesn't necessarily mean a happy ending, but it should be one that you as a viewer/reader can understand.
My favourite example for a satisfying storyline is Breaking Bad. That was brilliant writing from beginning to end. The ending might not be a complete happy end, but you understood, it made sense, you switched off the tv and nodded to yourself, maybe with tears on your cheeks, but nevertheless.
At least that's what I want out of fiction.
JB is one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever seen/read. The depth of their feelings for each other, though never together, though one of them also loves another, is so very romantic and poetic. To mess with this is so undeserving and disappointing.
Show!JB will never be the same for me and yes, I'm mad and sad about it.
*takes a deep breath*
It will take a bit more time, but soon I'm sure to be grateful for these few minutes of happiness they have actually let us watch.
The drinking game, Jaime finally following her, his jealousy, the clumsy attempt at seduction, heck even the three second underwhelming kiss. Now we know what it looks like when Jaime kisses her. I could never really picture it, so I'm grateful to have a visual.
Everything else, the tenderness, the love, the happiness, is something we will have to imagine.
That is what fanfiction is for.
Also, there will stil be the books. Fingers crossed.
