BIOGRAPHY:
Joaquin grew up where his father was feared and respected by many. He had power in their city, and it wasn’t the usual kind of political power. He had pull in the city because of his ties with organized crime pertaining mostly to Silvers in the area. Joaquin was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps. His own father was a Silver and Joaquin himself was a Silver. He enjoyed the free-spirited, devil may care life style at first as a young boy and he loved his father dearly. He liked having pull in the community until he realized that it wasn’t what he wanted in the end. Ultimately, Joaquin’s heart was never in it and he had a career change. Instead, he wanted to be a cop, the exact opposite of what his father wanted. Joaquin’s mentor and idol, a captain at the local police station, convinced him that he was so much more than his father and he could do anything he put his mind to.
Joaquin was well on his way to leading a good life that didn’t involve his father. He was engaged to his college sweetheart, got accepted into the police academy, and he had a son on the way. He eventually limited all contact with his father, generally speaking with his mother and siblings. He did contact his father for help with switching his silver blood with red blood whenever a physical was required. Some time after Joaquin graduated from the police academy, he was called to a scene of a crime, which turned out to be an ambush. They were outnumbered and several members of his crew were injured. Joaquin successfully put the assailants down and saved his crew, leading to a promotion as a detective. What the police force didn’t know was that Joaquin was a Silver with the ability to harness the power of the sun and he used his powers to save his crew. No one knew about his abilities except for his family.
Years later, Joaquin learned that his son, who was a Silver, could manipulate electricity. Joaquin’s father somehow caught word of his grandson’s new powers and he reached out to Joaquin again. Joaquin, wanting to end his relationship with his father once and for all and not knowing that he knew about his kid’s abilities, returned his call. His father told him that he had changed and that he wanted to meet his grandson. Joaquin decided to try and let his father back into his life to spend time with his son, believing a boy should have a relationship with his grandfather. There was still that part of Joaquin that still loved his father. After all, Joaquin did owe a lot to his father and they had good times when he was young. But the moment was too good to last.
Joaquin soon learned that his father had not changed at all and he was using Mateo for jobs. Unfortunately, he discovered this betrayal when he was called to the scene of a crime and found his father and son next to a dead man who was electrocuted. Unable to let his son take the fall for the crime or arrest his own father, Joaquin covered it up. Once again trapped under his father’s thumb, Joaquin helped him complete jobs, cover up shady dealings and deaths with his position at the police station, and earned extra money for his family. He did all of it to protect his son and keep him away from the toxic lifestyle. Joaquin’s last job with his father went to hell. The police had been monitoring Emilio Vasquez and Joaquin was caught at the scene redhanded. The job resulted in the death of multiple police officers when Joaquin lost control of his powers. The news also reported the deaths of both Emilio and Joaquin Vasquez.
Emilio Vasquez was very much dead, but Joaquin Vasquez was given a second chance. Saved by a skin healer and invulnerable, he was taken away from the scene of the crime. It was then that he learned that his father was targeted by one of his many enemies. They knew Joaquin was a Silver and sent the police to arrest him and his father to get them out of the way. With that information, he made one of the most difficult decisions in his life. He went on the run and left his wife and son believing that he was a dirty cop, a murderer, and that he died in an explosion. He could never reveal himself as alive or he would be arrested immediately and he would put a target on his family’s backs. Hoping to figure out more about his powers and the people who set him and his father up, Joaquin changed his name and moved as far away as he could, which ended up being Kingsholm, Norway.
Joaquin Vasquez is portrayed by Peter Gadiot.
