Seattle Urban Academy Job Shadows: Experiencing Careers Firsthand
Your gift provides students like Josh the opportunities to explore careers, including job shadow. Real-world experience allows them to discover which potential careers will be the best fit.
During SUA’s job shadows in March, our students met with around 25 professionals throughout our region. Josh, a junior, visited Alan, the Internet Sales Manager at Campbell Nelson Volkswagen Nissan in Edmonds, to learn what it takes to pursue a sales career.
Josh: “Alan, he jokes around a lot. He told me his background. He started school late.
He comes from a rough background, so he could really relate to us.”
Alan: “I felt it was important to let them know a little about me.”
“[Today], I can financially support my wife and five kids. It’s a job where people with second chances absolutely can succeed.
You don’t have to get straight A’s and be this perfect kid. To be successful, you have to have a competitive spirit.”
At SUA, we believe that our students will rise above the statistical profile often associated with low economic background, family history, or the neighborhood they grew up in. We know you feel the same way!
Because you invest in SUA, our students get to explore careers that might once have seemed unrealistic. You help open their eyes to new possibilities. Thank you for investing in Josh’s future. With you on his side, things are looking bright!
