and like the sheer randomness of this skill/hobby is so funny to me? just b/c mina’s been one of the pov characters the entire novel, and she writes down so much, about what’s happening, who she is, what she thinks about current events going on around her. not a WORD about this tho!!!! so her suddenly mentioning being like, this train-schedule-afficionado kinda comes off like stoker pulling it out of wherever, but i don’t even care, b/c it’s mina and i love her, you go you train-lover, you
i'm thinking about that revisionist dracula idea again and i'm leaning towards maybe instead of jonathan harker escaping from dracula's castle, mina and lucy rescue him? like mina goes "lucy i'm so worried about my fiance and these letters from him are awfully suspicious and forced, i think he's in trouble" and lucy's like "UH ur not going without ME" and then they go off to break in and save him. maybe somewhere along the trip there lucy admits her feelings for mina which in turn prompts mina to tell lucy she's in love with her, too, but also with jonathan, so it gives them time to process and consider the prospect of a poly romance. and then maybe instead of being bitten in england, lucy first encounters dracula in the castle and he bites her there? and then once back in england is when she starts figuring out her new abilities and shit
i want... to write... revisionist dracula fanfic in which lucy and jonathan are both in love with mina, who also is in love with them both. there is initial tension, b/c they have to figure out if they can make it work, if lucy and jonathan feel like they can do that. but eventually, even though lucy could never love a man, and jonathan doesn’t feel he could ever love more than one woman, they sort of strike up this sibling-y connection, very close good friends, and they both love their wife. and love each other, too, just more familial-y. it gets to the point where all three are genuinely happy and can’t believe there was a time where they NEVER would’ve considered such a connection, but nobody’s compromising or forcing themselves into something that doesn’t work for them. it’s real and good and sweet!
and then lucy still becomes a vampire but it’s less “we gotta DESTROY THE VAMPIRE” and more “lucy struggles with her vampire powers herself but she learns to control them and her dual nature and joins the squad in fighting dracula”
also quincey morris and arthur holmwood are boyfriends in this version, i think? but not until after lucy “dies,” because it starts out as a one-night comfort thing arthur NEVER would’ve considered b/c Social Norms, but then he sorta realizes he actually likes quincey a LOT. and lucy only accepted arthur’s proposal b/c of social norms, too!!! so it sorta works out for everybody.
van helsing in this chapter keeps like, listing dracula's abilities, and i'm over here like... "that's... a lot of powers... hey bram stoker... perhaps could u chill"
so uhhhhhhhhhhhh anybody else get some queer vibes off of quincey morris
