“I shopped at The Gilded Prune when I was a kid (in 1970-71, when I was 11 or so). I brought 3 posters to the counter they wouldn't sell me one of them; it was too sexual or something. I know Russell worked there, but I don't remember who refused me. In 1983 they played the Whisky-a-Go-Go in Hollywood, and I photographed the show (that was my profession back then). Three of my shots made it into the movie. I also did a private shoot with them at Russell’s home, and later covered the John Anson Ford Theater concert in Los Angeles. I became friends with their manager Joseph Fleury, and the last time I saw Ron and Russell was at Joseph's benefit show in 1990. I was thrilled to see the documentary, and to update my music collection. Hippopotamus is an amazing album. Here's a few photos that didn't make it into the documentary.”
