Distant Lover
I frequently wonder how often I cross your mind.
And if I cross, do you stop to engage or glance while continuing on?
I yearn for us to integrate.
That is not to say in an explicitly intimate manner.
A heartwarming hello.
A purposely prolonged embrace.
It ends quickly.
And again, you slip away.
“Don’t be a stranger.”
An ironic remark before departure.
We’ve known each other for years.
But I’ve never really known you.
I question this fondness.
Curiosity sparked the very moment we met.
Hopeful romance?
Romantic hopelessness?
I walk the line.
Not knowing which direction I may fall.
I believe you do as well.
Perhaps, we could fall together.
What an excuse to see you again.
Even if only for another fleeting moment…
