Hello Carolina Panthers, We're Body Boss!
Not often do people get to step foot into the weight room of an NFL franchise. Back in March, the Body Boss team had the opportunity to visit the Hammer Strength Clinic in Greenville (you can read more about our visit here). We got the unique and exciting opportunity to show Body Boss to Coach Joe “House” Kenn of the Carolina Panthers. Long-respected and followed by Strength & Conditioning Coaches everywhere and operator of Big House Power, House gave us 10 seconds to show him what we had. Armed with Body Boss on his iPad, Darren Pottinger didn’t disappoint.
After an exciting hour or so with House at the Clinic and email exchanges, House invited us to Bank of America Stadium, home of the Panthers, in Charlotte, NC in early April to show him more about what Body Boss can do for him and his players. Needless to say, we were stoked.
“Body Boss for Sport is an excellent product […] It can be used by any coach regardless of personal program design philosophies. […] nice job developing a rating system that would be a great motivator for individual improvement for the high school and collegiate athlete.[…] easy to upload a program and have your athletes log in and follow their routine when they are offsite.”
– Coach Joe “House” Kenn, Strength and Conditioning Coach of the NFL Carolina Panthers and BigHousePower.com
Entering Bank of America Stadium was surreal. The facilities were immaculate, and their weight racks were state-of-the-art from Hammer Strength in the Carolina blue (provided by Rich Gray and team, no doubt). So this is where Cam Newton, Steve Smith, and Co. work out… Wow.
We demonstrated how easily Body Boss could be set up for his players, and how his custom workout system, the Tier System, could be created as well. Credit House for being a visionary and someone who sees the opportunity to leverage new technologies to help him and his players. He’s created his Tier System program in Excel, but immediately sees the tremendous opportunity and ease-of-use with Body Boss – props to Don, Darren, and Andrew for creating a simple interface that WORKS.
After watching some players buzz in and out of the gym rep’ing weights I could only dream about, House was sold on Body Boss. Body Boss would enable him to engage his players, and get instant feedback. He recognizes the shift in players and how prevalent a role technology is playing in his athletes’ lives. Anyway to keep players engaged and make his life easier is an idea House would entertain.
At the end of our meeting, Coach Kenn and the Carolina Panthers were onboard with Body Boss! They now join some fantastic teams already using Body Boss including colleges like Georgia Tech with John Sisk, and high schools throughout the Southeast including Coach Jeff Carlberg and Ryan Douglas of Centennial High School and Coach Sid Maxwell and Kyle Hill of Lambert High School, and Coach Benjamin Nabers of Nabers Soccer Academy.
Coach Kenn’s take on Body Boss, “Body Boss for Sport is an excellent product for those coaches looking for a web based, easy access program design model. It can be used by any coach regardless of personal program design philosophies. The Body Boss team has done a nice job of developing a rating system that would be a great motivator for individual improvement for the high school and collegiate athlete. The Body Boss program holds value for the professional coaches because it is extremely easy to upload a program and have your athletes log in and follow their routine when they are off site. The can access their account through their smart phones, ipads, etc. and go to work.”
We’re excited about where we’re heading, and the fantastic coaching staffs and players we’re working with. Now working with the Carolina Panthers and House motivates us that much more to continue to build a stronger product for our partners. We’ve already made vast improvements since our launch in January, and are excited to continue to build the best Strength and Conditioning program in the market for teams all over the country – high school, college, and professional!
** SPECIAL SHOUTOUT to Brenda and team at The Common Market Juice Bar in Charlotte, too!
