Aerosmith-Self Titled
For me Aerosmith has always been one of my favorite 70's bands behind Queen and Ac/dc. Stephen Tyler Is a talented singer and Joe Perry Can certainly write some rockers. Their only real problems besides the coke (just kidding) was writing great albums as opposed to great singles. During their 70's heyday this was not the case and today I will review their debut, self-titled album.
Make It: This track is a nice opener to the album due to the catchy guitar and vocal work. It doesn't have one of the intricate solos that joe and brad were known for but this track would of played nicely on tour. 7/10
Somebody: This track doesn't stand much on guitaring but does contain interesting lyrics about searching for someone that has been through the same things in life as you. 5/10
Dream On: This song was one of their first hits and for good reason. Stephen Tyler provides some of his best vocal work on the album. the guitars are really stepped on this track and turn it into a classic. This Song is one of the highlights on the album. 9/10
One way street: This is one of the bluesier tracks that contains a nice harmonica take in it. The lyrics depict a man being used by a woman and deciding to break up with her. While it may be the slowest/longest songs on the album, the blues/harmonica combo do wonders in making it a catchy tune. 7.5/10
Mama Kin: My personal favorite on the album. The band does a good job in making this rocker as catchy as possible. The brass element is a nice addition and helps to bring the song alive. 9/10
Write me a letter: This track is similar in tone to mama kin and brings back the harmonica for a nice solo. The vocals are well done and the lyrics are just as catchy. They are possibly the best on the album minus mama kin. 9/10
Movin' out: This is a filler track that isn't bad in terms of guitaring, but it is certainly inferior to everything played before it. 5/10
Walking the dog: a Rufus Thomas cover. There's not much to say other than it is a filler track that wasn't the best choice for an album closer. personally I would have swapped it with write me a letter. 4/10
Overall album rating: 6.9/10
