Waaaaayyyy more people than I expected were interested in my 'Superman is Woke, Deal with it' post. And the most common comment was people wondering how the hell anyone could think otherwise.
Part of it is because conservatives are idiot fascists of course. But the other half is that DC Comics has spent decades turning Superman into a toothless, apolitical, 'big blue boy scout'. First to avoid 50's era censorship, but also to ensure those same idiot fascists will still buy Superman comics.
As I've watched the Pro and Anti-Snyderverse factions re-fighting the war online; I don't think either side would like Superman as originally written. Far too liberal for the toxic underbelly of the Snyder fanbase. But also not generically nice n' friendly the way fans of the 'blue boy scout' demand he be.
S & S Supes wasn't about giving people 'hope'. He was about telling the readers that 1) the planet isn't dying, it's being murdered. And 2) that it's murderers have names and addresses.
