“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell is going on,” growled Joel stubbornly as his dark eyes bore down upon her. “I suggest starting with how it’s possible for your husband and I to share identical…everything.”
Eternity sighed heavily, before she explained as quickly as she could, “There are things in this world — things that most humans go through life never knowing — that are supernatural in nature. There is a whole society hidden in shadows where the supernatural roam, in fact. You, sir, are a part of that supernatural world, because you are a doppelgänger of one Elijah Mikaelson. You are his shadow self and you exist because Elijah is a vampire. You see, his mortal life never reached a natural conclusion, hence the existence of a doppelgänger — and you’re probably not the first. This is why you and Elijah are identical in almost every way.”
Joel blinked rapidly at her, doing his best to keep up with what Eternity was saying. However, he was having trouble wrapping his head around existence of the supernatural — vampires, and doppelgängers. He felt as if he had woken up in the Twilight Zone, some alternate reality on some other plane of existence.
It was all so ridiculously fictional sounding that he immediately wanted to deny everything, to scoff at it all and call bullshit on it. Yet, he couldn’t do so, because he knew all along that he was a part of something supernatural, just by having Eternity in his life and seeing her wonders all the damn time for the past seven years.
The only difference now was that he could no longer ignore her strange abilities.
