Here is my submission for “who is the human in Muppet SAW” for each film and why:
SAW I - Dr Lawrence Gordon. This concept is god-tier and I am not changing it. Especially because of it’s ramifications in making John Kramer a Muppet.
SAW II - Daniel Matthews. I considered Eric Matthews, but it’s definitely way funnier if he’s a Muppet. Imagine all the serious, dramatic conversations between him and Muppet Kramer.
SAW III - Dr Lynn Danyon. The concept of a human woman performing Very Serious Brain Surgery on Muppet Kramer is too good to refuse. The other option was Jeff, because a man driven to hatred by the death of his Muppet son was also pretty funny.
SAW IV - Detective Peter Strahm. A difficult choice between him and Mark Hoffman, but in the end decided it had to go to Strahm because it maintains the One Human Rule across all future films, and also because Serial Killer Muppet Hoffman is a concept that gets funnier the more you think about it.
SAW V - Detective Peter Strahm. Since all these late-series films are connected, we have to keep continuity. Please visualise this final scene, particularly the Very Serious Fight, and the shot where blood drips onto the coffin above Hoffman’s face, but Hoffman is a Muppet.
SAW VI - William. Mostly because of the idea of a single human man sobbing over the fact he’s unable to save all of his Muppet employees on the murder-go-round (thank you @irresponsible-masochist) made me laugh for 5 minutes straight.
SAW VII - Dr Lawrence Gordon. We come full circle. The vast majority of this film is just Muppets but it’s worth it for the reveal of Gordon as Jigsaw’s true apprentice. Also, Very Serious Drama between Muppets is hilarious.
