3.] Do we believe that GOD would have spoken to Paul & he would speak to us?
Do we believe this still happens??!
LEADERSHIP TEST: Shawn Scarborough | Part 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 [June 16, 2019]
Let’s take a quick jump through the Old Covenant, then JESUS speaking
transitionary. Fulfilling one covenant then leading us into a better covenant.
What actually does this look like? Jeremiah 33:3, GOD spoke through the
prophet, “Call to Me, & I will answer & show you great & hidden things”
Jeremiah 33:3 | Call to Me & I will answer & show you great & unsearchable things you do not know.
They were living life of the law, they had the law/prophets.
Then there’s another prophesy to them:
If there’s something you don’t know, s/t that’s been hidden from you, call to Me & I will answer & I will tell you.
>> Even under the law, we see GOD promising to speak!
That’s a big deal.
Now what did JESUS say, John 16:12, He said there are still many things that I have to tell you, but you can’t handle it now.
It’s not like GOD is playing hide & seek.
There are times in our lives -- where we’re just not ready for a further truth.
John 16:12 | I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it.
We’re not ready for what’s around the corner, we’re only ready for what we
can see (GOD leads us here), but when we turn the corner -- now we’re
ready for something more & JESUS’ saying there’s a corner up there that
you can’t hear yet.
But even though I’m leaving, when you turn the corner I’m still gonna speak
to you. Since you can’t bear it now, when the Spirit of Truth comes, He will
guide you into all the truth -- where He will not speak on His own authority,
but whatever He hears, He will speak & He will declare to you those things
that are to come.
Now I love that because He’s saying I’m going to guide & speak.
This is something, maybe it helps you, but maybe it’s just preaching to me.
There are times when I want GOD to speak & tell me something.
And all He’s doing is guiding me.
And I’m just following, but I don’t really know where I’m going & I don’t
really know what’s around the corner, or what’s going to happen!
And I’m getting really frustrated!
And I’m saying GOD SPEAK!
And He’s just saying: “Follow ME.”
And I’m just following Him! But I don’t fully know why!
You know what?! Follow Him anyhow.
WHY? Because He will guide you & He will speak to you!
He will guide you saying nothing, leading you by His precious Holy Spirit
Then there are those moments when He will lead you by speaking!
They both matter (nodding).
Don’t stop following! Follow the guide.
So JESUS gives us this promise.
And now we had this lack of wisdom in Jeremiah
Then we had this “I don’t know but JESUS says you will know” promise in John
Then in James 1:5, so now we are squarely in the middle of the new covenant where all these better promises.
Last Sunday, the universal Church celebrated Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit — the “Spirit of truth” (John 16:12). Today, we commemorate the solemnity and mystery of the Holy Trinity, the Triune Godhead. Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these…
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one. Today is the feast day of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. How can three separate persons be one? Through the centuries, our brightest and giftest theologians were unable to plumb the mystery…
