“Satoko got on many fans' shitlist because they thought she chose the Israeli anthem on their own for her FS. If some fans have done some research, that anthem is part of John Bayless (the pianist who did Satoko's FS music) composition: he mixed Schindler's List, Bells of Moscow and the anthem. IT'S ALREADY LIKE THAT IN THE TRACK IN THE RELEASED ALBUM. So no, Satoko didn't ask Lori to mix the anthem in on her own.”
Blog post: New programs
Hello everyone!
Fantasy On Ice begins today! I hope that I will be able to continue to learn new things and spend an enjoyable time.
I will announce my programs for next season.
The short program is a mix of three Egyptian pieces: Yalla, Tabla & Percussion Solo, Egyptian Disco (Buddha Bar Edit) / DJ Disse. It’s the complete opposite of my image up until now as I thought “my new challenge is to change myself”. The choreography is by Benoit Richaud. It’s filled with moves that I’ve never tried before and it’s difficult, but I want to skate to it with all my strength.
The free program is Theme of Schindler’s List, Prelude in C sharp minor, Hatikva (Intelude). The choreography is by Lori Nichol. It is a program that expresses grief, suffering and humanity, and I hope that I can deliver something memorable. The music is an arrangement by John Bayless. When I was invited to John-san’s piano recital, I listened to this song on live piano and thought “I want to skate to this!”. I’ve been keeping it in my mind for a long time. When I decided on the song, I worried that it was too dark to skate to, but I really wanted to use it. In fact I think we were able to make a profound program once we actually started to work on the choreography.
I also received a message from John-san:
In my life I have had many many great and wonderful surprises and events that filled me with joy and happiness, but none can compare with the moment I heard my music being played as Satoko was skating at the Winter Olympics!!! This moment I will never ever forget... to think this “Japanese champion” was skating to my music made me so proud and so grateful.
What joy it gives me to be a part of Satoko’s elegance, grace and artistry!
A tremendous high point and highlight in my life!!!
Soar on dear Satoko , soar on!!
John Bayless
I will keep working in practice to be able to skate my programs firmly.

Blog post: Thank you very much!
Good evening everyone.
The John Bayless recital has ended successfuly. Thank you to everyone who attended!
It was my first time appreciating piano music. By hearing the raw sound of the piano, I was able to feel its profoundness and strength. Furthermore, John-san’s feelings piled up and resonated in my heart. I was captivated by the world of his piano, listening to pieces that were deeply familiar to me as a figure skater. In addition, the intertwined and harmonized sound of his collaboration with Yamazaki Ryota-san and Nakamichi Risa-san made me realize the brilliance of a music piece.
In the middle of the interview we were doing on stage, he played an arrangement of “Sakura” for me and I could taste a brand new world of harmony in the strength of quietness. I felt that I could create a new worldview if I could express even the fine sound of this piece. Once again, this will become a challenge for me, but I definitely think I can perform a program using this tune.
In the end, he also played “Madama Butterfly”. This piece has offered me many gifts: from the experience of coming back from injury and performing at the Olympics, to the possibility of meeting John-san and other such wonderful opportunities.
This wonderful day cannot be described in words. I am deeply grateful towards all the people who made this precious opportunity possible. I hope to make good use of this experience in my future life and I will do my best.

Satoko with John Bayless
According to her blog, her new programs are as follows:
SP: “Yalla”, “Tabla & Percussion Solo”, “Egyptian Disco (Buddha Bar Edit)” by DJ Disse - Choreo by Benoit Richaud
Satoko says: “新しい挑戦として少し変わったものを ([I wanted] something different as a new challenge)”
FS: “ Theme of Schindler’s List”, “Prelude in C sharp minor”, and “Hatikva” performed by John Bayless - Choreo by Lori Nichol
(When I was invited to John-san’s piano recital, I listened to him play this number live on a real piano and thought “I want to skate [to it]!” and I have always kept it in mind since then. When I finally decided to do it, I was a bit afraid that it might be a bit too dark for a performance, but still I felt that I definitely wanted to do it.)

Nudibranch
John Bayless
The photo above showing a striking fish-like creature was taken in 70 ft (21 m) of water off the coast of Malaysian Borneo near Sipidan Island. Actually, it's not a fish at all but rather a Nudibranch (“naked gills”) a member of the class Gastropoda in the phylum Mollusca. They are slow-moving and often brilliantly colored carnivores that have their gills exposed on their back. This unusual animal is a type of sea slug that forgoes a hard shell and uses camouflage and toxins for defense. The ominous horns are called rhinophores and are utilized to sense environmental conditions. This adult is about 16 in (40 cm) long -- one of the biggest members of the Nudibranchia group. Photo taken on November 2, 2012.
I grew up listening to John Bayless recordings. Even after a stroke, he can convey beauty with his left hand alone. He epitomizes the resilience of the human spirit!
