Fruit of My Roots
John Bisbee (https://www.johnbisbee.com/)
Throughout my thirty years of abstract humming, the nail never failed me. Anchored only by its form and materiality, I revelled in the nail’s infinite possibilities. However, further erosion in our governments already limited empathy has demanded that I move from the realm of pure abstraction to one of allegorical realism. I am now compelled to create with a new voice, one that summons the utilitarian associations of the nail with new vigor and responds to the world outside of myself, pointedly and with humor. American Steel is an aggressive spectacle; my patriotic and poetic reexamination of America.

When it comes to creating fluid, organic sculptures out of rigid materials, you might say that artist John Bisbee has pretty much nailed it.
The Maine-based artist discovered his love for using nails as a sculptural medium while he was still in college.

Writhing Organic Sculptures Formed from Nails by John Bisbee
Over the past three decades, artist John Bisbee (previously) has dedicated his creative work to the medium of nails. Recent artwork includes several large installations that transform the stiff, architectural material into writhing organic shapes. “Out of the Garden” seems to reference the Biblical tale, with an enormous snake piercing the Fuller Craft Museum‘s wall with its fangs and a fruit-laden tree nearby. “Infinity Pool,” a circular wall installation, features larger spikes at the outer circumference that shrink to smaller nails toward the center, lending a dramatic sense of depth to the two dimensional work. Bisbee, who is based in Maine, has displayed his work across the northeastern US, and his upcoming 2018 show will be at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland, Maine. Thanks Colossal
