The Oakland Raiders will sign Jon Gruden to one of the longest coaching deals in NFL history — a 10-year contract likely approaching $100 million — when it is made official Tuesday, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday.
The length of Gruden’s contract is not unprecedented. The Cowboys gave Jimmy Johnson (in 1989) and Tom Landry (in 1964) 10-year deals as well.

I hear a lot of whispers from Cowboy fans on why John Gruden is not being looked at. I have two words for you Jimmy Johnson. If you are newer cowboy fan Jimmy Johnson was probably gonna be one the best coaches of all time. He won everywhere he coached. He coached The Cowboys from 1989-1993. The guy could draft, relate to players, coach, get the right coaches to help. Problem was Jerry Jones needed all eyes on him. It was actually sad to see the break up cause I believe the Cowboys could have gone on a run for the ages. I have seen some articles were Jerry himself may regret on how things ended. So unless Jerry is ready to win and allow his coaches to well coach we will always be stuck with puppets. I will give Jason Garrett some credit he has moved forward as a coach but he does not mesh with what the Cowboys need. The hope is he continues to develop as a coach. I have said all along he is a great offensive coordinator.
