John III reigned between 1521 and 1557, a period that signals the commence of Portuguese Renaissance, the first European contacts with Japan, the beginning of the colonization of Brazil, the strategic abandonment of the first Portuguese strongholds in Northern Africa...oh, and the arrival of the fearsome Inquisition.
