A-T-2 384 Visage - Pleasure Boys (Bonus Beats)
As I mentioned John Luongo and Rusty Egan in the last post now is the right time for their remix of Visage's Pleasure Boys. This track is notable for it's influence on electro, hip-hop, and house music in New York and on the Miami electro-bass scene
Visage - Pleasure Boys (Bonus Beats) by John Luongo and Rusty Egan that came out as a promo in the UK in 1982. The cheaper option is the Polydor Dance Classics 12" which came out in the US in 1986, the other three tracks are none too shabby either
Danny Krivit is credited as associate producer on above Polydor Dance Classics 12" compilation. Now, he could be responsible for the bootleg re-edit that also came out around 1986, rock the house y'all. Essentially it's the bonus beats in the middle of this track
Visage - Pleasure Boys (bootleg re-edit)
Here's the original remix. The break is at 3.54 in this YouTube clip

A-T-3 042 Level 42 - The Chinese Way Dub
So Simon a young graffiti artist I met in Southend-On-Sea through the most lovable person on the planet George (Big Daddy G), when I asked Simon what he was listening to in the mid 2000s he said Level 42 (in exactly the same manner Jay and Silent Bob defended Morris Day and The Time in Strikes Back) I'm never going to say an unkind word about Level 42 (apart from Mark King was such a presence he became a cliche for bass players)
People of the world can be divided into two categories. People who know Wally Badarou from his work with Level 42, and people who know Wally Badarou from his work outside of Level 42. Wally Badarou co-wrote The Chinese Way with Level 42. I've already posted at least three records he worked on this year A-T-3 041, A-T-3 038, A-T-3 002, guy's a genius
Although the jazz-funk scene in the UK was waining in clubs it was waxing in the charts, albeit a more poppier version
The Chinese Way charted in the UK in January 1983. The next single The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up) would peak at number 10, their highest chart position until Something About Your and their run of hits in 1985/86
This dub version of The Chinese Way is why record collectors go on about boxsets and reissues. As well as Wally Badarou co-writing and playing on this record it's the UKs favourite Bostonian (USA) on remix duties. Depending on the party my tip is to pitch it down a smidge - try it
I like the cover of the album The Pursuit Of Accidents it has a lying in the gutter staring at the stars feel. The artwork for Level 42's self-titled debut and The Chinese Way (probably by Joe Bartling) is beautiful imo (possibly ultra appropriation but still)
