AeschTunes Artist Spotlight: The Echoing Green
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the AeschTunes Top 40, we’re highlighting one artist who made an impact on the chart each month leading up to the anniversary in July 2026. Our final spotlight focuses on The Echoing Green.
The Echoing Green is a synthpop band that started in 1992 as a duo comprised of Joey Belville and Aaron Bowman. Over time, the lineup has changed, with the band's current lineup being Joey Belville, Chrissy Jeter, David Adams, Will Foster, and John Ball.
The group first came to our attention in the mid-90's through a friend of one of AeschTunes' founders. Through them, we learned about the Defend Your Joy album, as well as the Aurora 7.2 and Science Fiction releases. Thanks to the internet, we kept up with their releases in the late 90's and early 2000's.
When the AeschTunes Top 40 began, the Music From the Ocean Picture album had been released, and the very first number one song on our chart was The Echoing Green's "Trip." We charted "Beautiful" as a follow-up, and it became their next number one hit on the AeschTunes Top 40. The Neuropa Mix of "December," which was also on that album, peaked at number 35 in December 2001. In 2002, The Echoing Green released The Evergreen Annex - Remix Addendum EP, and we charted the System22 Remix of "Supernova" from this release. This remix peaked at number three in April 2002.
The Winter of our Discontent, the album The Echoing Green released in 2003, yielded several hits on the AeschTunes Top 40, including five number one hits. In addition, there was also a Top 5 hit and a Top 20 hit.
The Echoing Green's cover of Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" also appeared on the chart, peaking at number 35 in December 2002. "The Sparrows and the Nightingales," a collaboration with Sheltershed, hit number one in November 2003. The song "Seaside" peaked at number four in February 2005. The Echoing Green's final appearance on the AeschTunes Top 40 was "Suffer," which hit number one in March 2007.
After the end of the chart, The Echoing Green released the In Scarlet and Vile album in 2011. In 2020, they released a best of compilation album. Three years later, the band released a song titled "Kisses 2 Chaos" in February 2023. "Kisses 2 Chaos" has the distinction of being the first song review written after the AeschTunes website was relaunched in 2022. In October 2025, the song "I Know Right" was released, and we reviewed it on AeschTunes.
According to The Echoing Green's website, the band is working on a new album titled, In Definite Infinite.
Thank you to The Echoing Green for your music and its contributions to the AeschTunes Top 40.
