Response to Anne's post: Lafayette Park

I shared your astonishment in all of the details of Lafayette Park. Having so much thought go into each part of the area—from the privacy to the dappled ambient light to the completely-retractable blinds—was really remarkable to see.

Maybe you have the same opinion as well, but for me, the reason why I was so impressed with all these little things was not really because of how clever they were. Rather, it was the way that Neil explained each of them with such enthusiasm. It was very clear that he, along with other residents of the Park, took great pride in Mies van der Rohe's architectural system.

This connected to the larger overall theme of the strong sense of community in Detroit. For those who are left in the city, the architecture serves as a host to this strong connection.
