since no one is seeing my vision, i'll give y'all more intake on the incredible amazing ship joe white/frank bama. before mcdanno there were them!! (they even got the damn height difference)

so, here are my take on them

Joe was born 1949, he enlisted when he'd been 18 years old

Frank was born 1948 and enlisted when he'd been 19 years old

both of them attended the naval academy

they met in the academy and shared a bunk, quickly becoming close friends

Joe realized that maybe he did want more from his friend after only weeks in which the young man had grown his most trusted friend

Frank had always been - well, Frank - and on their last night before graduating academy they'd ended up a little closer than the law allowed. it was risky and foolish, but neither of them had cared that night, sharing a moment by the showers

they had to part because of different further career choices in which Joe ended up becoming a SEAL and Frank went to the marines

they stayed in contact, writing each other at every chance they got

they met twice during the war and on leave, once in Singapore and once in Tokyo were they'd ended up fooling around again, this time also kissing

during the last year of war Joe ended up meeting John McGarrett at a hospital they'd both ended up in. they began the decade long friendship

after the war Joe and Frank met a few times, though Joe stayed in the Navy while Frank left

in the end their contact got less over the years, fuelled through the law against homosexuals in the military and in general

both had relationships with women over the years

joe ended up marrying three times but not a single marriage lasted long for him, due to the fact that he never actually been interested in any of them for real. though joe himself had tried to be, actively ignoring his clear attraction for men and especially the stll lingering feelings he harboured for Frank

the last time they'd met before the start of the series was in 2004, where Joe had given in his desires for his old friend. he'd spend four days with him, aware of the fact that for all it counted he'd rather stay forever at Franks side

around 2014/2015 Steve ended up being the only person he'd ever told about his sexuality after Joe'd figured out that Steve seemed to be struggling with the same problem; being in love with his best friend

Shout out to John McGarrett for two things, staying dead and not having a secret so big like babysitting Wo Fat or having a secret family or something like that. He wasn't the world greatest dad, and he had secrets here and there, but he stayed dead like a champ

Just to clear up any confusion about canon on Hawaii Five-0, I will list the facts here:

Steve's eyes are blue hazel. (Alex calls them "hazelly blue.")

Steve's parents are John and Doris.

Danny's parents are Eddie and Clara. His siblings are Matt, Stella (Eric's mother), and Bridgett.

In April 1992 (Steve was 16 and Mary was 10), Doris faked her death.

John told Mary and Steve that she was killed by a drunk driver.

Steve doesn't find out that his mother's "death" was actually murder until 1x11. Mary doesn't find out until somewhere between 1x11 and 1x13. She finds the pictures of the car bomb in 1x11, and in 1x13, we find out she was kidnapped because she had started asking questions about their mom's death.

After Doris' "death," Mary was sent to live with their Aunt Deb. Steve was sent to the Army and Navy Academy (ANA) in Carlsbad, California. Joe White (aka "Uncle Joe") helped get Steve into the school.

After graduating from ANA, Steve went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, for 4 years.

After graduating from Annapolis, Steve was with Naval Intelligence for 5 years, and then he joined the SEALs for 6 years.

It is implied a few times throughout the series that Steve was a sniper.

When Steve came back to Hawaii after his father's murder, he transferred to the Reserves.

Steve is fluent in Mandarin and Hawaiian, and he can speak conversational Korean and Japanese. He understands Pashto, but he says he is rusty.

STEVE IS NOT STUPID. He is actually very smart. Plus, he was in Naval Intelligence. Intelligence is in the name.

Kono has met John McGarrett before.

Even after Chin was accused of being a dirty cop by IA, John McGarrett stayed his friend.

Both of Kono's parents are still alive, but her mom had an aneurysm, so she can't walk or talk.

so i'm rewatching the pilot and i'm giggling a lot and i'm twelve minutes in (steve just picked up the wheel lube. he's about to meet danny. this is very stupid but it always has me going hm.) and we just learned that when john called him "champ", he was leaving a sneaky little clue to look in the toolbox in the garage:

and googling "champ toolbox" and finding a lot of champion brand results has convinced me that that's probably what this is (the streak of black grime is obviously covering part of the word/sticker), so now this whole thing is just making me think... was this a deliberately planned thing on john's end? did he sit down at some point in his life and go, "well, if i ever end up in a hostage situation and i have to convey to someone where i left the secret tapes on the investigation into my wife's murder which i've been obsessed with to the point of missing most of my children's lives to keep chasing that ghost, then i'd better have a codeword i can throw into the conversation" and then fortunately his champion toolbox just so happened to look like this? did he maybe even dump oily black dirt over the box to achieve the desired effect, like a macho man arts and crafts project?

because i wouldn't put any of that past a mcgarrett, but i'm seeing some incredibly obvious avenues to comedy here in a) what if the only person he could communicate with had been someone other than steve? would he have called, like, the elderly woman senator champ if she'd been held hostage with him somehow? and b) if this champ thing wasn't planned, but a spur of the moment idea, that would mean it's just pure coincidence that any of this worked out well enough to go undetected by the guys pointing the guns. what if the first three letters had been blacked out instead of the last three? "listen to me, mpion" just doesn't have the same ring to it. there are also many different toolbox brands, as i've discovered today! i found one that said husky on it. there's homak, which would be interesting with the last three letters crossed out like in canon. taparia with the first two letters gone would create something close to pariah, which might be a little too on the nose from this dad to this son. and then apparently there's also a brand called... dirtbag. i don't think i need to explain the joke for that one, but it has me wondering if the rest of the show would've happened if steve had hung up on john immediately after the first two words.

One thing that always bugged me is the McGarrett house. How did John afford it? It's on the Beach. I once saw a tiny beach (one bedroom) house in Hawaii go for over 1m. So did John McGarrett sell his soul? And is Steve on the hook?

Or did Doris kill someone for it?

I absolutely love how Steve dreams of (almost) everyone having an ideal life in 5x07, like:

Kono never broke her knee and she is a three times winner of a very famous surf competition.

Chin was never accused of stealing that evidence money from the department and is an HPD captain and soon-to-be chief.

Lou still lives in Chicago, apparently the hostage situation where the kid died never happened and he is on vacations in Hawaii

Jenna Kaye is alive and so is her fiance (just a few scratches from the bike accident whoops-)

Max is a doctor that works with actual living people.

And

Danny is happy.

Like, he is still married to Rachel, Grace is with them, he loves Hawaii and he breaks rules to get his job done and he wears a hawaiian shirt and he looks so relaxed and carefree and just genuinely happy with his life.

And

His dad is still alive.

That is the ideal life for himself.

His dad being there with him, and he is able to tell him 'I love you' before he wakes up and this is why it is so heartwrenching when he asks Danny for his dad, he wants to see his dad.

But he's been dead for four years.

And I believe that the montage with 'All for one' is Steve remembering everything that Five-0 has been through for the last years, the ups and downs and it's also what makes this episode (apart from being the 100th episode) a special masterpiece.
