well this is cool: Patrick Carney is releasing new music with John Petkovic (Death Of Samantha, Cobra Verde, Guided By Voices, Sweet Apple). The duo is called Sad Planets, and their “psychedelic trash” debut album is titled Akron, Ohio. Due out on April 19  Described as “a mix of psych, pop, garage and experimental rock that pairs hook-heavy songwriting with Eno-esque synths and layers of guitars.”

“Petkovic and Carney wrote and recorded the album in Akron, taking inspiration from local heroes like Devo, the Cramps, Chrissie Hynde, and Tin Huey as well as Brian Eno.”

Muy prometedor lo que están haciendo Sad Planets, el nuevo grupo de Patrick Carney, batería de The Black Keys, y el cantante John Petkovic (Guided by Voices, Death of Samantha, Sweet Apple, Cobra Verde).

Primero fue la estupenda “Not of this World”, psicodélica y electrónica, entre The Misunderstood y Brian Eno; después la extrovertida y directa “Yesterday Girls” en una línea más “power pop”, y ahora estrenan otra bastante buena “Just Landed”, nada menos que con J Mascis de Dinosaur Jr. tañiendo la guitarra solista.

Mañana el dúo publica su álbum debut “Akron, Ohio”, en Tee Pee Records.

Finally finished a long-ass article about one of my most favorite bands, and one of the most underrated, Death of Samantha. It’ll be in an upcoming Ugly Things magazine, looks like November.
