He had not been expecting to see the lights on through the window when he pulled into the driveway. It was way past midnight, and with the hours he was accustomed to JP working, Nathan had assumed the house would be empty. He hiked his backpack onto his shoulder and unlocked the front door, eyes narrowing as he walked in, his brain slow to process the sounds of JP bustling about.

Right. The sight of his roommate jogged his memory, and Nathan let himself relax, offering JP a nod in greeting.

“Hey, man. You’re up late.” He kicked his shoes off by the door and dropped his backpack on the couch. “I’m surprised to see you here. Thought you’d be at Duck’s.”
