has anybody done this au yet
John trying his best to explain a football play to the team... blah blah blah place name proper noun back story stuff...
Bob doesn't necessarily dislike the way John calls him Bobby. Theoretically, he should dislike it--infact he did, for a bit. And then when he was the Void, he heard John yell "Get up, Bobby," like he meant it. Maybe he didn't. But it sure felt like it did.
John would call him nicknames, with slight alterations. Bobby, Bobbio, Bobbo, and Bobs. Rarely did he ever say Bob to refer to well--Bob. It was always one of those little nicknames.
So when he's kissing John for the like, 2nd time, a more passionate makeout than either of them have been used to in a while, and John says, "Bob," in a way that made it seem like if John didn't have Bob, John wasn't complete. It made Bob pause. It made John keep going.
John rarely ever calls Bob "Bob". And when he does, it's intimate, or it's serious. Like if John was kissing down Bob's abs, looking up at him from his waistband and whispering "Bob," to get his attention. Like if John was on a mission, looking around and realizing he didn't know where Bob was. "Where's Bob?!" He'd exclaim naturally, until he found the man.
Bob came to like the little nicknames, even if John called him Bobby, there was a separation between the two. John said Bobby softly. Even if it were harsh, he had control, he wasn't trying to hurt Bob, intentionally at least. John held Bobby softly. Though his grip is firm, John's hands grasped Bobby with a sort of gentle nature. John knew Bobby. He knew the things Bobby did or didn't like, the things he'd quietly nitpick at, or the types of movies he likes, or even the way he likes his pizza.
Theoretically, they shouldn't like each other.
Matter-of-factually, they do.
John knows Bobby.
Bob knows that.

John: Please, Bob, after everything we’ve been through together. You can’t do this.
John: I’m sorry Bob.
John: I’m begging you. Don’t do it.
Bob: It has to be done.
John:
Bob:
Bob: *Places +4* Uno.
not to be like a voidwalker truther or someone who points at like the crumbs of interaction and screams “IT’S CANON” bc i mean the chances of voidwalker being canon come avengers doomsday are slim to none (i don’t even think bob and john are both making it out of that one alive)
but, why did the shot of bob crying during the group hug feature john so prominently?
like they easily could have had yelena be the one sharing that shot with him, to go along with all their buildup throughout the movie
she and bucky are there but out of focus, i mean yelena’s head is basically behind bobs shoulder at that point
but john’s in focus and we see him say something to bob
there’s lots of thought and planning that goes into every shot of a movie so idk just food for thought
it could mean nothing
voidwalker au where bob and john knew each other before they met in the oxe vault. john had met bob somewhere overseas on his tour and they somehow became friends. john helps bob stay clean and bob listens to the worries john has about his military career, his family, and potentially becoming captain america.
but eventually, john has to report to another country and bob wants to keep exploring so they exchange phone numbers and try to keep in contact with each other. but the last john heard from bob was that he had made it to malaysia. then… radio silence.
when bob stumbles out of the box in the vault, john can’t believe his eyes. they both recognize each other but john has his image to maintain and bob is ashamed of himself and the fact that he didn’t stay clean after they parted. so, they both act like they don’t know each other.
everything else still happens. they get out of the vault. they make it up the elevator. but when they clasp hands and john relives his memory, bob is physically present there like he was with yelena. he sees what happened and he recognizes how the real john crumbles.
maybe something changes. maybe the talk with yelena doesn’t happen and instead, john forces bob off to the side so they can talk in private. or maybe the talk with yelena does happen and they never get a chance to talk about what bob saw. so john just has to watch as bob sacrifices himself for them.
cluck on that thangg
