Old School Tie | Johny Johny Yes Papa | Nursery Rhymes For Kids | Childr...
I rode so many horses today....
Blush - we had a lesson, I was horrible, my upper body was not strong, my lower body was even more of a mess. We did this great exercise were we set ground poles up all horizontally in a circle, and we went around that to work on fixing my circles, and then we did spiral ins and spiral outs. Blush was really working her small circles, otherwise I need to stop doing a lot of naughty things. Blush is just SO hard to ride when she is correct that I wasn't keeping up today. But we cantered at the end, and she did great! Stayed on the bit, picked up the right leads, etc.
Leroy - no lesson, I lunged him and he was sassy. We did trot poles and he tried to canter them, and it was HILARIOUS. it was horrible training but he hopped through them like a fucking rabbit. I could barely focus because it was hilarious. I was so ready to be done after that. But I got on and we did walk/trot with a martingale on, and he did MUCH better. I never realized that a horse that was started with artificial aids might not know how to work without them when you teach them something new. So I was happy with that, his canter was much nicer minus his fucking leads are horrible.
Santos - Went and watched him have a lesson at Blackshire, he did really well. I learned some things from Mindy and Angela. Santos is a big baby (17hh already!) and was afraid of me making noises with bags in the corner of the arena, but he was great, it was a great lesson! I saw the big ugly moose horse again, and almost died inside because he is the weirdest looking horse ever.
Mark - still lame, his legs are twisted and he is getting the horse version of shin splints, so that will have to happen and heal but we have to keep working him. So I lunged him for 20 minutes, buted him, linimented his legs, and then 15 minutes with my ice leg wraps, and then put him back outside, he is horrible at lunging I had to teach him how to not turn in, and he is not the quickest at picking that up at all.
Mafia - did really well I rode him bareback, just walk/trot. Worked on not drifting his corner and coming onto pressure, etc. Normal stuff, then I got bored and jumped off and grained him and supplemented him. He was done for the day.
Wolf - Watched his lesson with Sami, me and Sami sat and talked about how excited we are to show together. She will be doing bigger shows and I'll be doing opportunity classes before her shows so we will play groom for each other. I'm really excited for us to be riding our Irish ponies together ! Wolf was super naughty today, i was soo shocked. He did not want to work. More reasons I love my mares!
Johney - Jumped on him bareback (not the brightest idea but i was just going with it) he did really well! no buck, he barely spooked at the ice, otherwise he worked really hard to understand pressure, almost have neck reining down! And we trotted ground poles, which he enjoys! His trot is horrible bareback, and now I'm so sore I could die. Otherwise Johnny was great! I love that bay horse.
I am so sore and tired I could die now, and tomorrow I have Johnny and Leroy to ride, and thats it, but still I'm not looking forward to how sore I'm going to be in the morning.
speaking horses are the only thing i ever have to talk about...
rode ALL the ponies today, literally.
Blush -
lesson today with angela! I almost called her and told her to go home, because we were warming up and it was horrible. She was fighting me tooth and nail to come off the bit, and to not come onto it. but a strong outside rein, and I found if i open my inside rein to my hip that she comes right onto the bit! So we fought first for a good 15 minutes before I found her "button" and then we got to work, doing some actual dressage work! We did down just basic turns at a trot down the center line, and transitions on the bit, switching reins, etc. fun lesson! Angela was shocked because I can post a crazy ass horse like Blush for an hour long lesson and not be tired, and then she was convinced I was posting wrong because my legs should be burning but I wasn't, I just have legs of steel :)
Leroy -
I had a mini lesson on him, he still sucks at standing in the cross ties but we're getting better. But Angela lunged him, trot is SO much better, but we don't know if we will ever be able to fix his canter, and if we can't I'm hauling him to a cow show next month and we're going to see if he fairs well at that otherwise he is a lost cause, because his body might not be able to make the transition. It was better today but still his front end is so messed up that we don't know if he will be comfortable cantering like a normal horse instead of like a shitty western pleasure horse. then i jumped on and rode him and he did well there, corky even came and watched and we did ground poles and everything and corky had some good riding ideas, which was awesome to hear ! leroy got a nice long workout in, and then he was done.
Johney -
he was SO good today!! we lunged with a saddle on and he listened very well, and I jumped on and rode and while we still need that forward momentum he is doing extremely well. No spooking really, even with a crazy horse in the arena pulling back ever two seconds, and another lady was riding as well. I was very happy with his progress.
Mafia -
Jumped on bareback, we walk/trotted for like 15 minutes, he didnt want to canter, so I gave up on that dream after our second attempt. But otherwise he did really well! His roll backs got shitty but he was so sweaty by the time we go there that I figured it can be fixed on a later date.

All the horses were wonderful today and a joy to ride! it also helped that it was so nice out today as well.
Angela said that my diagonal changes at a trot are "textbook," corky said my two point over ground poles was "the best he's seen in 70 years" and he also told me that I rode Leroy extremely well and with confidence, I was so red by the end of every ride just from compliments. Angela said my leg is also under me and "textbook dressage" and that I just need to work on my upper body ! which I can fix because it's just reminders to myself.

Lacey update! if we can get the lady down to 9k then we're driving down to TN to look at her, get a vet check done, and then we're paying someone to haul her back ! I am so excited I could die, I'm going to be leasing her, and we already have our stud picked out. The current owner is being a bit iffy on the price, so if she doesn't drop it Angela is going to walk away sadly :/ but I think she might be the one ! dressage and eventing here I come!
fell asleep before I could post about ponies today...
So here's how they were.
they were all AWESOME TODAY, literally through the roof and back on how happy I am with each horses progress. I've never been able to make such progress with horses until Angela and Paula took me in :) I love my barn family <--- that post to come.
anyways
Leroy -
Angela gets there right when I'm saddling him, we had a lesson planned for him. So she lunges him and is floored at how much better his trot it! he can use his hind end now and stretch his front legs out. His stride is just sooo much better. I've been riding him with so much speed to his trot that now he has a tad too much speed, so we're working on half halts, outside rein, counter bending, etc. to get him to slow down a tad without "punishing" him because he's "sensitive" so we lunge him, and then I get on him and he stands perfectly for that. And then we start out walking, and I got an actual working walk out of him instead of his ridiculous western pleasure walk... his trot was beautiful under saddle, i just had to drop my hands a bit lower then I would like if I were to turn him into a dressage horse instead, and really drive with my legs to get him onto the bit, so we got a much better trot and angela was super happy with how I have him coming and told me I've accomplished so much in a such a short time. We even got him to walk over the bridge!!
Blush -
Was suppose to have a lesson, but now we have one friday instead, I jumped on and rode her and her walk was great, and soft. Now shes bending past the verticle, and being "overly soft" so we have issues to address there. I need to keep my hands up in a more centered position, but her softening is just amazing now! we trotted and did some good diagonals, and i got TEN strides of "cute" as angela puts it, where her hind quarters are engaged, im driving blush onto the bit with my legs, and shes collected, and just moves BEAUTIFULLY, and looks like such a dressage horse! I'm so impressed with how well she is taking to everything lately, and she wanted to work so hard today, and she worked until she was absolutely exhausted, and then I let her go eat in her stall :)
Johney - He was SO easy to catch today! I gave him a treat and put a halter on him. Brought him inside and he spooked at nothing at all. Paula and Angela have never been around to see me work him, at least not for months, so the last time they saw him he was tearing around the arena on a line, bucking, rearing, and would either bolt or wouldnt move forward at all. So I bring him in the arena where 5 people are riding, lunge him on a lead rope in the middle, he does awesome great walk/trot transitions, and listened really well and focused on me the entire time while there were horses everywhere, and even running into us. Then we step out and I saddle him and he stood like an Angel! I need to buy a slightly bigger girth for him though. But we saddle and I put the hack on him and I take him into the arena with 4 people in it now, and ride with everyone on him. Just at a walk, he did so well, listened to me perfectly and all we did was walk. I even got 2 strides of a trot that he choose to do! I'm going to walk him so much that he's going to get bored and want to trot, so that's the plan to let him go at his own pace until he wants to do something and sees how good it is! But he was literally awesome, Paula and Angela were really floored with his progress. When they saw me go to jump on him they gave each other the "shes a crazy teenager" look and let me keep going but by the end they were giving me the "he's going to make a nice horse some day" look!!! we all stood and chatted for like 30 minutes after and he stood like an angel even with all the other horses around. And he stood tied up with mark and didnt do anything and they shared grain with him, and when I put him back he stayed around and waited for treats. I love that fat boy ! next step is getting his teeth floated :)
another day at the barn
i get there and get on blush right away, while Paula rides Mark. Ride Blush and accomplished nothing, we need to finish our work on counter bending, and get more soft but until then we did pretty ok. I guess I'm just frustrated that every time I ride her it can't be "fun" it has to be a waging war that with my personal horse I don't always want to win, but if I don't we aren't getting anywhere. So I get off after 30 minutes, cool her down, stall her, grain her, give her hay, we're done.
I go and get Leroy who is her stall neighbor. Saddle him, lunge him in side reins, his canter is still awful, trot was better but I still see lots of room for improvement. So then Patrick shows up and is riding with us so we didn't have a lot of room to work with. But we worked in the one corner of the arena just trotting circles, and he did really well, I started teaching him counter bending, and outside rein, etc. Balanced trotting also came into play. I had spurs on this time so I was ready for his crap he pulls, and he was going to slam me into the wall, and I tapped him with my spur and he takes off bucking for half a lap at a canter. We'll according to Paula I "sat that beautifully and with grace, as if I were at a show with a fresh two year old" so I'll take that as a good thing? Speaking I was riding english in my new jump saddle and I thought I was going to die for two moments there. So the bucking fit happened twice, we rode it out, did some nice circles, transitions, etc. and we called it a day.
Then on my way to get Fat Johney, I notice Bert is colicing for the third time in 3 weeks, second time in 3 days. I call Paula over we give him oral banamine, and then I get to walking him. I walked him out for 45 minute before his owner shows up and by then he was fine, just gas colic. So Johney and him made friends, and his owner lunged him some bit and put him back out he was fine when I left as well.
Johney got lunged over ground poles and his manners are getting a lot better, I realized he is just confused and needs a leader in his life, which I'm working on becoming or already am, and speaking he is the meanest horse in his pasture of 11 horses it explains a lot. So he did really well and his trot is coming along just how I want it to be.
Put Johney back outside and Moofa is waiting at the gait. So I take him out and groom his a ton, and jump on bareback and walk/trotted, and that was it. Our killed 20 minute ride of trotting, I grained him while I cleaned Blushs stall, and then I put him back out.
All the ponies are now grained and done, and I just got home. I get to go do chores at 5am tomorrow, and then get Blush and Mafia in the trailer, haul the horses to Amber's school for her project, and then haul them back, hopefully have a lesson, and then ride Leroy and Johney, and then I will be done with horses for the day.
I was thinking on the way home I could never want a job in horses because of how stressful it is, but a job in horses is way more rewarding then a job anywhere else, so now I don't regret not going to college as much :)
Riding Schedule for tomorrow:
Do Chores first
Dressage Lesson with Blush - show Angela that we can do shoulder in, and probably work on some more basic stuff and maybe canter work? If I'm lucky but Blush's canter is going to be a hot mess because we haven't worked on it in months. Slow and steady!
Ride Leroy and see where he is at, start with lunging him, and putting a real bit in his mouth, he hasnt had anything besides a straight rubber snaffle, and if we're going to make him a real show horse he can't be going in that. Anyways so switch him to a jointed happy mouth, then my myler, lunge him in vienna reins, get a saddle back on him, hop on and see how he's doing. One person has ridden him since like December so it will be a interesting ride.
Ride Johney, because this girl was suppose to be ground driving him to become a driving horse for Corky our barn owner but she hasnt been and she basically destroyed his perfectly soft mouth, so we're going to work on rebuilding that again, and then work on just basic lunging, getting forward back, and get him moving walk/trot/canter without bucking. It will be a nice little project for a while.
Maybe ride Mafia depending on if Amber goes to the barn tomorrow. I'm going to grain him though, and let him play in the arena with Blush I'm sure. Happy Ponies all around, and I'll be happy because that's a lot of riding to get in. I'm just excited to impress Angela in our lesson tomorrow!
