Get ready to cry 😭 but also laugh 😂 This story is just so incredible; for anyone, but especially for a palliative young adult. Representation in media is just SO IMPORTANT!! Seeing myself in Hazel Grace, in Augustus, in Isaac, was literally life changing. To this day, this is one of my favourite books, and favourite films... It made me feel like I wasn’t alone. It’s also one of my parents favourites. When we went to see the film together, we realised that we were laughing at bits no one else found funny, and crying at parts no one else found sad... because the story was just so relatable for us... because it was so REAL. It doesn’t shy away from the horrific parts of chronic degenerative illness (that scene with Gus in the car... we’ve been there, guys), but it also shows that sick people are, first and foremost, people. We aren’t on this earth to inspire other people... we’re here for the same reason as you, to live. And TFIOS shows that, shows sick people living... following their dreams, falling in love, having sex, loving America’s Next Top Model, spending time with their friends, throwing eggs at an ex girlfriend’s car, making jokes. This film was so accurate when it can to Spoonie humour; we do laugh at shit other people don’t find funny. We have to, or we wouldn’t survive. And after all, laughter really is the best medicine. I guess what I’m saying is, watch this film... then go read the book! Because it will change your life... and because it’ll open your eyes to what my life is like. #tfios #tfiosisamazing #thisismystory #reasonstostayalive #readthis #watchthis #johngreenisagenius #ididntfeelalone #palliativecarewarrior
