One of my greatest honors was to have my 2nd LT bars pined on by my Grandfather and my Dad in June of 1979. Both were combat vets. Granddad served in the US Army in WWI and my Dad served in the Coast Guard where he was awarded the Bronze Star with V device for valor during WWII. My Granddad passed away about 6 months after my commissioning and this is one of the last pictures I have of him. I shipped out right after this event and was overseas in Germany when he died on Dec 30, 1979. To all veterans – thank you for your service!!!
