🇺🇸 Remembering Senator #JohnMcCain… He was a hero in every sense of the word. “McCain graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1958 and followed his father and grandfather - both four-star admirals - into the United States Navy.” He became a naval aviator, and his plane was shot down over Vietnam. “McCain fractured both arms and a leg when he ejected from the aircraft, and (he) nearly drowned.” No one wants to be captured & forced to be a prisoner, but he faced his captors with courage. And he was even more courageous when he refused special treatment & an early release so that his POW friends did not lose hope. He loyally chose to stay with them as a POW with no end to the war in sight. After over 5 years of imprisonment, he was finally released, & he went on to serve our government & serve as a Senator for over 30 years until he passed away. He truly and deeply loved his wife, family, his friends, our country, and God. McCain was loyal, was a gentleman by treating women equally and respectfully, and was a man of honor. And my #WW2 grandfather greatly admired him. On Sunday in Vietnam, “Hanoi residents held a memorial…, leaving flowers to remember the man who “fought for peace in many countries, including Vietnam,” as one onlooker told The Associated Press.” —- I once heard a veteran say: “Courage comes from love.” This is such a profound truth - spoken simply and perfectly. And John McCain’s heart was reflected during his 2008 GOP Acceptance speech - when he said: “I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else’s. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency, for its faith in the wisdom, justice, and goodness of its people."❤️🇺🇸 He will be dearly missed, and his wife, family, and friends are in our prayers.❤️ --------------------------------------------------------------------- 📖(Also, Sunday evening on CNN, I watched a documentary, "John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls," which I recommend. It is named after his favorite Hemingway book. In it, he shared how, when he was 12 years old, he found a four-leaf clover and reached for a book to place it in. And this book that he discovered in his family's library was "For Whom the Bell Tolls," and he shared how this book impacted him from that age throughout his life. Then, in the documentary, McCain takes you through the history of his life, his memories, and his service. And his family and friends, also, share their memories. I hope CNN replays it, but you can probably find it on the Internet. It is about 2 hours. (I read Hemingway's book in high school, but I need to reread it. Did you read it, too?) I, also, highly recommend one of John McCain's books in my previous post: “Why Courage Matters.” Some of his other books that stand out the most, to me, are: "Faith of My Fathers" his family history, "Hard Call" on leadership and hard decisions, and two memoirs: "Worth the Fighting for" & his last, recent book, “Restless Wave.") 📖(My writing: #inknscroll.
