PRODcast 130′s Old School Player o’ the Week: Johnnie LeMaster
This week’s pick is Johnnie LeMaster (which is French for “THE MASTER”, something he most certainly is not), who is widely regarded as one of the shittiest baseball players of all-time. Over an inexplicable 12-year big league career as a shortstop, which spanned from 1975 to 1987, The Master (didn’t they make a movie about him?) hit .222, had an OPS+ of 60, and -5.4 WAR. He did most things poorly, but somehow found a way to do those things for long enough to earn a major league pension. He’s also built like someone who has never exercised and is kind of afraid to eat because it makes him tired. The dadhat was on point, the dadlap was on point, the creepstache was on point, and the late-70s hair helmet thing was also incredibly on point, but his baseball ability was absolutely not. Oh, and he kinda looks like he could be the father of Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch.
