In January 2009, 56-year-old Johnnie Redding was found dead in an abandoned Detroit warehouse, buried under ice and trash with only his feet showing. The medical examiner ruled his death a drug overdose.
His body was discovered by Detroit News reporter Charlie LeDuff, who had to call 911 three times before officers responded. They couldn’t find the body until LeDuff guided them back the next day, when crews used saws to free the remains from the ice.
