Happy N7 day everyone! Here's my last minute piece of my OC Johnny Shepard-Itou being vanguard cranky.

My princess .... Process... For this johnny Shepard-Itou piece for N7 Day 2025 for those interested. This one got *real* ugly at one point and I was seriously considering scrapping it altogether. There are still things I would like to fuss with but I need to stop. Learned a few things along the way about how the blue pigments behave with layering and blending.

Coloured pencils, watercolour pencils and paint, mineral spirits for blending. On 140lb cold press watercolour paper.

🥺🥺🥺 guys lookit my poor melancholy baby. 🥺🥺🥺

I asked @daggertongue for a more melancholy Johnny moment instead of the sunflower/sunshine/golden retriever self he usually presents to the world. Hot damn was it ever delivered. Johnny has these occasional dissociative episodes when no one's watching where he genuinely questions if he really exists in the same galaxy everyone else does. It's a quiet existential crisis he's had since his late childhood and pre-ME2 certainly did not help.

Took me a long time to attempt this and all I could muster was a lazy digital sketch, sorry. But it gets the point across I suppose hehe.

First of all, Johnny abhors jeans of any kind (too restrictive). Worse: they've got extra barriers to removing them. Heck nah. He's gonna pout about it. Add flats/toms that he can't even run in on top of that and he'll be barefoot in an instant.

So I've been stalling on painting Johnny post Torfan and shirtless (what a combo!) because I have to finish designing his tattoo sleeves/pectorals. Managed to start his right side, but needed to do a life-size hard copy so that I could figure out where the edges meet in 3D. It is far from perfect, but a solid start, at least.

Part of the challenge was figuring out what a "traditional" japanese sleeve tattoo would look like 100 some odd years from now. Kept it pretty classic, I think, but since I'm not an expert in irezumi, I think the errors can be chalked up to the decades down the road thing I was puzzling over lol

Oh dang, right off the bat, hey? @astorythatwritesitself I think that Johnny's obituary would be very...wrote, coming from his mother Hannah Shepard. It'd highlight his career achievements, his willingness to help others etc etc. Full of stilted love and generally hitting the right notes, if a bit... Out of touch with who her kid actually was. His father my OC Hiroshi Itō would probably not want to contribute publicly to what he considers moreso Alliance publicity than a true celebration of his son's life. Rather than an obituary, he would devote the rest of his life to reforming biotic nutrition and medical treatment guidelines/training for the Alliance and beyond. He would also advocate for better accountability and reporting systems for victims of SA or misconduct within the Alliance (in the verses where this aspect of his son's lived experiences comes to life).
