#Repost @rauschenbergfoundation (@get_repost) ・・・ Together in the 1950s, Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns broke away from Abstract Expressionist art, creating a new pictorial language that turned banal objects and colloquial symbols into sensational abstractions. The story of the duo’s collaboration unfolds in Rauschenberg's 1955 #Combine “Short Circuit”. _ Behind the doors, Rauschenberg hid two smaller paintings by unknown artists at the time, his ex-wife Susan Weil and his studio neighbor and companion #JasperJohns. Johns would go on to make over 40 paintings of the #Americanflag and the work incorporated in “Short Circuit” might have been the first flag painting he ever made. Johns’s painting was stolen out of “Short Circuit” in 1965 and has never been recovered!
