« Artiste à la curiosité insatiable et à la créativité débordante, Robert Rauschenberg s’est fait remarquer à un carrefour fertile de l’art américain, alors que l’expressionnisme abstrait touchait à sa fin et que le pop art faisait son apparition. Sa stratégie esthétique, qui englobe la sérigraphie sur toile, l’assemblage, la scénographie et la performance, est basée sur le collage et la juxtaposition d’objets et d’images du monde quotidien afin de susciter leurs effets réciproques et de stimuler une réponse presque poétique chez le spectateur. »
